(ESP-ENG) Dragon Ball Daima | Mid-season review.

When DBD arrived back in October, many of us fans were expectant and impatient to see a new adventure of Goku and company, despite the fact that we would see them with children's bodies emulating Goku from DB GT. It is true that this fact alone made many people get off the train, they saw it as nonsense and that they had not yet seen any of their chapters. When it was finally released, the most recurrent opinion was that besides the nonsense, it seemed that they were watching something excessively childish and very far from what DBZ left. For my part I decided to give it a chance, I wanted to be faithful to my childhood and check that it couldn't be that bad; now that the series has reached its halfway point, let's see what I got.

Cuando DBD llegó por allá en octubre muchos de los fanáticos estábamos expectantes e impacientes por conocer y ver una nueva aventura de Goku y compañía muy a pesar de que los veríamos con cuerpos de niños emulando al Goku de DB GT. Es verdad que solo este hecho hizo que mucha gente se bajara del tren, lo vieron como un sin sentido y eso que todavía no habían visto nada de sus capítulos. Cuando se estrena finalmente la opinión más recurrente es que además del sin sentido pareciera que estaban viendo algo excesivamente infantil y muy alejado a lo que DBZ dejó. Por mi parte decidí darle la oportunidad, quise ser fiel a mi infancia y comprobar que aquello no podía ser tan malo; ya llegado el ecuador de la serie vamos a ver que me conseguí.

As I said at some point DBD seeks to rescue things from the past, I think the idea of master Toriyama was to give people a hit of pure nostalgia, those things that once made us fall in love with anime. One of them is the way this new plot is being told. The first thing you see is the adventurous tone of it, it's like being in a video game where Goku goes from world to world looking for things. This is nothing more than the essence of that Dragon Ball when Goku was a child and spent time with his grandfather who had just arrived on Earth and where he gradually gets to know the rest of the characters.

Como lo dije en algún momento DBD busca rescatar cosas del pasado, creo que la idea del maestro Toriyama era darle a la gente un golpe de nostalgia pura, aquellas cosas que alguna vez hicieron que nosotros nos enamoráramos de la anime. Una de ellas es la forma en la que está siendo contada esta nueva trama. Lo primero que se ve es el tono aventurero de la misma, es como estar en un videojuego en donde Goku va de mundo en mundo buscando cosas. Esto no es más que la esencia de aquel Dragon Ball cuando Goku era un niño y se la pasaba con su abuelo recién llegado a la tierra y en donde poco a poco va conociendo al resto de personajes.

And we also notice it in Goku's own attitude. The big complaint of the people is that so far the series has been to see him eating, sleeping and going to the bathroom; but isn't that the Goku of always? I remember that DBZ itself had its brakes in the plot to relax a little before getting really interesting, all its sagas went through the same process. And I say this because as the series has progressed we have started to see interesting things, several fights, the plot is taking a little more shape, Goku has already transformed into SSJ and the icing on the cake was what Vegeta did in chapter 12, his transformation into SSJ3.

Y es que en la actitud del propio Goku también lo notamos. La gran queja de las personas es que hasta ahora la serie ha sido verlo a él comer, dormir y yendo al baño; pero es que acaso ese no es el Goku de siempre?. Recuerdo que el mismo DBZ tuvo sus frenos en la trama para relajar un poco antes de que llegar lo realmente interesante, todas sus sagas pasaron por ese mismo proceso. Y esto lo digo porque conforme ha ido avanzando la serie se han comenzado a ver cosas interesantes, varias peleas, la trama va agarrando un poco más de forma, ya Goku se transformó en SSJ y la guinda del pastel fue lo hecho por Vegeta en el capítulo 12, su transformación en SSJ3.

This was undoubtedly incredible because until now we had not seen Vegeta in that phase. The design is brutal, of all the transformations it is one of the ones I like the most but it is also one of the most demanding because it drains a lot of Ki. I feel that this fact enlivened things a bit, it made us remember the illusion of seeing someone transform for the first time and what better than Vegeta. This was accompanied by a fight that was really good, it surprised me a lot, it lasted the necessary time, the animation is already known to be of a high level so it was quite enjoyable.

Esto sin dudas fue increíble porque hasta ahora no habíamos visto a Vegeta en esa fase. El diseño es brutal, de todas las transformaciones es de las que más me gusta pero también es de las más demandantes porque drena mucho el Ki. Siento que este hecho avivó un poco la cosa, nos hizo recordar la ilusión de ver a alguien transformarse por primera vez y que mejor que a Vegeta. Esto fue acompañado por una pelea que la verdad estuvo bastante buena, me sorprendió mucho, duró lo necesario, la animación ya se sabe que es de mucho nivel por lo que se disfrutó bastante.

Going back to the roots, I want to finish with another curious fact that we saw in this first part of the story. Not only the recycling is not only in the background but in the form and we learned of the appearance of a “new” Majin Boo, only that this one was called Majin Kuu. It is understood that it is the same name, or almost, because its creator was the same. I'm not going to say why he was born, but he will be a character to take into account and I think he can give us certain emotions in the 7 episodes that are left, because yes, there are 13 and I understand that there are 20 episodes left. The cool thing is that we already saw him in action and as expected, he reminds us a lot of Boo from DBZ.

Retomando un poco lo de querer volver a las raíces quiero terminar con otro hecho curioso que vimos en esta primera parte de la historia. No solo el reciclaje es en el fondo sino en la forma y es que supimos de la aparición de un "nuevo" Majin Boo, solo que a este lo llamaron Majin Kuu. Se entiende que es el mismo nombre, o casi, porque su creadora fue la misma. No voy a decir porque él nace ni mucho menos pero si será un personaje a tomar en cuenta y el que creo que puede que nos de ciertas emociones en los 7 episodios que quedan porque si, van 13 y tengo entendido que son 20 nada más. Lo cool es que ya lo vimos en acción y como era de esperarse, nos recuerda mucho al Boo de DBZ.

Anyway, the conclusion I can draw is that this is definitely an attempt to reconnect with DB after the “failure” of Dragon Ball Super. I liked DBS a little bit but I totally understand the complaints. Lots of plot and filler chapters, as always; comedy-filled interactions and lots of adventure, as always as well; and several events that are setting us up for what I consider a finale, and hope very much, that lives up to it. If you haven't seen DBD, I recommend it? - if you are a true DB fan, yes. Keep in mind that you might get bored at times, it's very normal, but I'm here mostly in the hope that it can close better than it started.

En fin, la conclusión que puedo sacar es que definitivamente estamos ante un intento de volver a reconectar con DB después del "fracaso" de Dragon Ball Super. A mi me gustó un poco DBS pero entiendo perfectamente las quejas. Mucha trama y capítulos de relleno, como siempre; interacciones llenas de comedia y mucha aventura, como siempre también; y varios hechos que nos están preparando para lo que considero un final, y espero mucho, que esté a la altura. Si no has visto de DBD, te la recomiendo? - si eres un fanático verdadero de DB, si. Ten en cuenta que puede que te aburras a veces, es muy normal, pero acá estoy más que todo con la esperanza de que pueda cerrar mejor de como comenzó.
