En el género del terror es notorio que cualquier fecha festiva se convierte en el motivo perfecto en muchas de sus películas, en especial las slasher; este uso de festividades nuevamente funciona como base para lo que posiblemente sea el primer slasher que veo en este 2025, me refiero a "Heart Eyes", una comedia romántica con elementos de terror que narra la historia de "Ally", una mujer que no terminará de superar su anterior relación amorosa, peor en el día de San Valentín, de manera inesperada y tonta se verá atraída por "Jay", un encuentro que también atraerá a un asesino que ha aterrorizado a cada pareja en el día del amor por los últimos dos años y que en esta oportunidad no querrá perder la oportunidad para flechar y matar a otra pareja más.

Este film fue dirigido por Josh Ruben, un nuevo director que sus anteriores trabajos están ligados a desarrollar historias en dónde el terror y la comedia son las características principales; personalmente he visto uno de sus pocos trabajos, me refiero a "Werewolves Within", film basado en un videojuego del mismo nombre y en dónde hace un genial trabajo; en "Heart Eyes" nuevamente se presenta esa oportunidad de relatar una historia cómica, muy romántica y con un correcto uso de las reglas de un slasher; en mi opinión Ruben, supo dar relevancia a los géneros del film y posiblemente es la comedia la que pudo convertirse en el pegamento perfecto; las escenas románticas en dónde la química entre los protagonistas va creciendo, hace que se genere situaciones cómicas lo cual también se van creando al momento de aparecer el asesino; todas esas características fluyen gracias al trabajo del director lo cual tiene como gran logro de no aburrir, ni exagerar en lo que vemos en cada escena.
El guion me sorprendió y no me refiero a que sea digno de estudio o algo parecido, me refiero a lo correcto en el cumplimiento de las reglas impuestas en cada género, creo que está película es una sátira a las comedias románticas y slasher y gracias a eso, la historia se hace muy divertida y entretenida; personalmente no soy muy fan de los trabajos anteriores de los guionistas Phillip Murphy y Christopher Landon, pero creo que en esta oportunidad pudieron hacer funcionar muy bien su trabajo dando liderazgo a la comedia lo cual hizo que funcionará todo lo demás, desde cada personaje que aparece en esa hasta el inexpresivo asesino.
This film was directed by Josh Ruben, a new director whose previous works are linked to develop stories where horror and comedy are the main characteristics; personally I have seen one of his few works, I mean "Werewolves Within", a film based on a video game of the same name and where he does a great job; in "Heart Eyes" again presents that opportunity to tell a comic story, very romantic and with a correct use of the rules of a slasher; in my opinion Ruben, knew how to give relevance to the genres of the film and possibly it is the comedy that could become the perfect glue; the romantic scenes where the chemistry between the protagonists is growing, it generates comic situations which are also created when the murderer appears; all these features flow thanks to the work of the director which has the great achievement of not boring, or exaggerate what we see in each scene.
The script surprised me and I do not mean that it is worthy of study or something like that, I mean the correctness in compliance with the rules imposed in each genre, I think this movie is a satire to romantic comedies and slasher and thanks to that, the story is very funny and entertaining; personally I'm not a big fan of the previous works of screenwriters Phillip Murphy and Christopher Landon, but I think this time they were able to make their work work work very well giving leadership to the comedy which made everything else work, from every character that appears in it to the inexpressive killer.
Cómo siempre sucede en un film de terror, personalmente no soy exigente en la mayoría de los actores que son parte de este tipo de films, pero en esta oportunidad y como lo he dicho en anterioridad, esta no es la típica película de terror y por supuesto tampoco es la típica comedia romántica, pero en esta oportunidad, sus protagonistas cumplen con los clichés de ambos géneros; los actores Olivia Holt y Mason Gooding quienes interpretan a "Ally" y "Jay", tiene la química correcta lo cual hace creíble la atracción entre ambos, pero que por traumas de sus relaciones anteriores tienden a no comprometerse por completo, en eso las historias de ambos cumplen con fortalecer la parte "RomCom" de la historia, pero no hay duda que el personaje de "Ally" toma el liderazgo necesario para conllevar su rol protagónico como algo único al momento de convertirse en una correcta y divertida "Final Girl"; su personaje es el mejor junto a "Zeke Hobbs" y "Jeanine Shaw", interpretados por Devon Sawa y Jordana Brewster, ambos detectives que ofrecen posiblemente uno de los momentos más cómicos del film.
As it always happens in a horror film, personally I am not demanding in most of the actors that are part of this kind of films, but in this opportunity and as I have said before, this is not the typical horror film and of course it is not the typical romantic comedy, but in this opportunity, its protagonists fulfill the clichés of both genres; the actors Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding who play "Ally" and "Jay", have the right chemistry which makes believable the attraction between them, but due to traumas of their previous relationships they tend not to commit completely, in that the stories of both fulfill to strengthen the "RomCom" part of the story, but there is no doubt that the character of "Ally" takes the necessary leadership to carry her leading role as something unique when becoming a correct and funny "Final Girl"; her character is the best next to "Zeke Hobbs" and "Jeanine Shaw", played by Devon Sawa and Jordana Brewster, both detectives who offer possibly one of the funniest moments in the film.
No soy fan de las comedias románticas y eso no quiere decir que no haya visto ninguna o que no he disfrutado de alguno porque he visto un buen número de ese tipo de películas, pero las que he disfrutado, son las que no siguen el mismo patrón que implementa ese género, lo que quiero decir es que he disfrutado a películas que se arriesgan a mostrar algo más o que usan la comedia como característica relevante y en Heart Eyes, no solamente ponen en práctica lo antes dicho, sino que suman el género del slasher lo cual creo que potenció aún más una historia que no trata de cambiar al mundo o ser considerado como la mejor en su estilo, pero si puedo decir que al no tomarse en serio y satirizar a muchas otras producciones que seguramente influyeron en este nuevo film, hace que este sea una película muy entretenida, lo cual me sorprende porque es de esas películas que te genera muchas expectativas, pero al final terminas recomendado a todo el mundo, por eso si quieren ver algo sencillo y fácil de digerir, entonces vean Heart Eyes.
I'm not a fan of romantic comedies and that's not to say that I haven't seen any or that I haven't enjoyed any because I have seen a good number of those types of movies, but the ones I have enjoyed, are the ones that don't follow the same pattern that implements that genre, what I mean is that I have enjoyed movies that risk to show something else or that use comedy as a relevant feature and in Heart Eyes, they not only put into practice the aforementioned, but they add the slasher genre which I think further enhanced a story that does not try to change the world or be considered the best in its style, but if I can say that by not taking itself seriously and satirizing many other productions that surely influenced this new film, makes this a very entertaining movie, which surprises me because it is one of those movies that generates you many expectations, but in the end you end up recommending it to everyone, so if you want to see something simple and easy to digest, then watch Heart Eyes.
