Session of some of my favorite weather photographs.

Greetings friends and lovers of photography and nature. Among the multifaceted manifestations of the art of photography, one of my favorites is related to Meteorology. This manifestation allows me to combine my love for meteorological science with my taste for photography. Meteorological phenomena manifest themselves in nature leaving us amazing and beautiful scenes worthy of capturing with our cameras. On numerous occasions I have had the joy of capturing some of these impressive scenes, having in my favor the fact that I live in a tall building in a tropical climate environment. Below I share with you a selection of some of my favorite weather photographs accompanied by their meaning:

    Storm cloud in arches

This type of cloud known as Cumulonimbus arcus is a storm cloud in the form of arches or rotating rollers that was photographed in the direction of the coast of eastern Havana while a winter system was arriving, accompanied by heavy rains and electrical discharges. This aspect is typical of potentially severe meteorological phenomena.

    Anvil-like storm cloud

This impressive cloud is known by the scientific name Cumulonimbus incus, the meaning of which refers to its appearance as a giant storm cloud with its top extending horizontally like an anvil, due to the divergence of air at the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere at an altitude of more than 12 km. It was taken in a southerly direction during a summer storm.

    Rainbow

This impressive rainbow was recently photographed during the heavy storm that hit Havana last Friday. At a moment when the sun was visible in the middle of the rain, the light refracted inside the water droplets producing an arc with the colors of the different waves of visible light decomposed.

    Threatening-looking stratiform clouds

This type of cloud is known by the name of estratocúmulos asperitas whose meaning refers to its appearance of cloud in the form of dense and thick cumulus clouds extended horizontally, giving the sky a threatening appearance. Contrary to their appearance, they do not produce rain, and are formed in the outlying regions away from thunderstorms.

    Photographic properties:

    F1.7 1/50 s 3.93 mm ISO 125
    Auto white balance
    No flash

Structure of a storm in formation

In this photograph, the complete structure of an evening storm in formation can be seen, with a line of dense clouds piled up on the front flank and the main part of the cumulonimbus growing with the development of its anvil at the top.

    Photographic properties:

    F1,7 1/1603 s 3,93 mm ISO 40

    Cloud hanging bags

This type of cloud is known as altostratus mammatus, which refers to its appearance as a veil-like cloud covering the sky horizontally, with overhanging protrusions at its base due to the contrast between the rising and falling air in the regions far away from the extended tops of the stormy cloud anvils.

    Photographic properties:

    F1.7 1/1650 s 3.93 mm ISO 40
    Auto white balance
    No flash

    Glacial clouds at dawn

This photograph shows the presence of high ice clouds known as cirrus in the skies of a sunrise with the rising sun rising majestically. This type of cloud is usually a harbinger of future weather change.

    Photographic properties:

    F1.7 1/714 s 3.93 mm ISO 40
    Auto white balance
    No flash

    Clouds of fire

This photograph shows a dense cloud with a "fire" appearance due to its reflection of the yellowish tones of light from the sun at the time of sunset, in the golden hour.

    Photographic properties:

    F1.7 1/203 s 3.93 mm ISO 40
    Auto white balance
    No flash

Well friends, I hope you enjoyed it. Have a happy day, everyone. Best regards.
