En cada temporada hay circuitos los cuales son muy esperados porque se sabe que son pistas que dan pie a que las carreras sean de calidad, el circuito Gilles Villeneuve es uno de ellos. Esto pasa generalmente por dos factores, por el trazado del circuito y por el clima que generalmente haga en dicha localidad. En Montreal es una combinación ya que esta pista contiene grandes curvas que dan juego al espectáculo, zonas de DRS para buenos adelantamientos y un clima más que todo lluvioso que lo que hace es agregar un valor agregado a lo que usualmente vemos en una carrera de fórmula 1. Lo visto ayer no fue la excepción, creo que presenciamos una de las mejores carreras de lo que va de temporada, por no decir que ha sido la mejor hasta ahora.
In every season there are circuits which are highly anticipated because they are known to be tracks that give rise to quality racing, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit is one of them. This generally happens because of two factors, the layout of the circuit and the weather that is usually in that location. In Montreal it is a combination since this track has great curves that make the show, DRS zones for good overtaking and a mostly rainy weather that adds value to what we usually see in a Formula 1 race. What we saw yesterday was no exception, I think we witnessed one of the best races so far this season, if not the best so far.
Desde las prácticas ya estábamos viendo cosas inusuales como el rendimiento de los Aston Martin, que tal parece fue un simple espejismo, los McLaren que dejaron de ser una promesa para convertirse en una realidad muy sólida, los Mercedes quienes también se les vio bastante acoplados y con buen ritmo mientras que los Red Bull y la Ferrari no parecían estar dando buenas sensaciones. Esto que les digo se vio materializado en la pole position en donde vimos varias sorpresas, la salida del Checo en la Q1 y la propia de los dos Ferrari en la Q2. De hecho, el fin de semana completo para la escudería roja fue un completo desastre, mal funcionamiento de los vehículos (Leclerc) y malas estrategias sepultaron toda opción para puntear y hacer un buen papel en tierras norteamericanas.
Since practice we were already seeing unusual things like the performance of the Aston Martins, which seems to have been a mere mirage, the McLarens that stopped being a promise to become a very solid reality, the Mercedes who were also seen quite coupled and with good pace while the Red Bulls and the Ferrari did not seem to be giving good feelings. This was materialized in the pole position where we saw several surprises, Checo's start in Q1 and the two Ferrari's in Q2. In fact, the whole weekend for the red team was a complete disaster, poor performance of the cars (Leclerc) and bad strategies buried any option to score and make a good role in North American lands.

Me sorprendió mucho el cómo llegaron los Mercedes, tenía tiempo que no los veía tan competitivos, Russell fue un espectáculo total el sábado al punto de que hizo el mismo tiempo que Verstappen pero al final se quedó con la clasificación por haberla hecho primero que el neerlandés. Hamilton tampoco se queda atrás, el tema con el británico es que en esa última vuelta de la Q3 algo pasó y no logró el tiempo que venía haciendo durante toda la sesión por lo que quedó relegado a la séptima plaza. Norris y Piastri siguen demostrando que son rápidos y que sus intenciones de pelear el campeonato son serias, ambos salieron en la segunda fila de la parrilla de salida.
I was very surprised by how the Mercedes arrived, I had not seen them so competitive for a long time, Russell was a total spectacle on Saturday to the point that he did the same time as Verstappen but in the end he was left with classification for having been first than the Dutchman. Hamilton is not far behind either, the issue with the Briton is that in that last lap of Q3 something happened and he did not achieve the time he had been doing throughout the session so he was relegated to seventh place. Norris and Piastri continue to demonstrate that they are fast and that their intentions to fight for the championship are serious, both started in the second row of the starting grid.
La lluvia fue la invitada de honor, con ella se esperaba que el premio se centrará en el manejo adecuado de los neumáticos acompañado de las estrategias adecuadas para evitar incidentes raros. Fue tan así que al apagarse las luces e iniciar el premio los Hass fueron los únicos de los 20 pilotos en salir con gomas ultra wet lo que hizo que comenzaran a adelantar a todo el mundo a diestra y siniestra ya que la pista estaba realmente mojada y estaba lloviendo a cántaros. Esto no duró mucho y terminó siendo un espejismo porque pronto dejaría de llover por lo que las estrategias de las que les hablé comenzarían a hacerse presente.
The rain was the guest of honor, with it was expected that the award will focus on proper tire management accompanied by the right strategies to avoid rare incidents. So much so that when the lights went out and the race started, the Hass were the only ones of the 20 drivers to start with ultra wet tires, which made them start overtaking everyone left and right as the track was really wet and it was pouring with rain. This did not last long and ended up being a mirage because it would soon stop raining so the strategies of which I spoke would begin to be present.

Como dije fue una carrera super entretenida porque la lluvia hace que todo sea impredecible y que pilotos que generalmente no llevan vida con pista seca pues en estas condiciones si logran figurar un poco más haciendo que todo sea más competitivo. Y fue tan así que este premio tuvo tres líderes diferentes: Russell, Norris y Verstappen. Russell porque logró la pole pero no pudo con la velocidad de Norris y que además lo afectaron par de errores de concentración, Norris porque fue una de los más rápidos en pista, tenía todo para ganar pero un Safety Car de Sargeant hizo que esa ventaja se perdiera y finalmente Verstappen porque fue el que aprovechó dicho SC para ubicarse en la punta y así conseguir la victoria.
As I said it was a super entertaining race because the rain makes everything unpredictable and that drivers who usually do not have a life with dry track, in these conditions if they manage to figure a little more making everything more competitive. And it was so much so that this award had three different leaders: Russell, Norris and Verstappen. Russell because he got the pole but could not with the speed of Norris and also affected by a couple of concentration errors, Norris because he was one of the fastest on track, he had everything to win but a Sargeant Safety Car made that advantage was lost and finally Verstappen because he was the one who took advantage of the SC to take the lead and get the victory.
Durante toda la carrera vimos duelos a lo largo de las posiciones, Alonso y Hamilton tuvieron unas batallas muy interesantes; Norris, Russell y Piastri lo mismo, una eterna lucha por esas primeras plazas; hubo abandonos duros como los de Sainz y Leclerc, ya les decía que la Ferrari no pegó una, lo que hicieron con el monegasco fue un sin sentido: cambiar a gomas duras con pista mojada y con la lluvia a minutos; el Checo Pérez se pego contra el muro y destrozó el carro y se retiró también, el mexicano fue otro que tuvo un terrible fin de semana, lleva dos consecutivos porque en Mónaco abandonó igual. Al final fue un fin de semana muy redondo de Fórmula 1, como debería de ser siempre.
Throughout the race we saw duels along the positions, Alonso and Hamilton had some very interesting battles; Norris, Russell and Piastri the same, an eternal fight for those first places; there were hard retirements as Sainz and Leclerc, I was saying that the Ferrari did not hit one, what they did with the Monegasque was nonsense: changing to hard tires with a wet track and with the rain minutes away; Checo Perez hit the wall and destroyed the car and retired as well, the Mexican was another one who had a terrible weekend, he has had two in a row because in Monaco he abandoned the same. In the end it was a very rounded Formula 1 weekend, as it should always be.

Terminó ganando Verstappen sin ser el más rápido y sin tener el mejor carro, esto último viene pasando desde hace un par de premios en donde se han reportados ciertos fallos en su funcionamiento. La carrera pudo haber sido para cualquiera, Norris lo tenía todo para ganar al igual que Russell. Hamilton culminó cuarto seguido por los dos Aston Martin que están un par de escalones por debajo todavía a pesar de siempre ir con mejoras a los premios. Cero puntos para los Ferrari y el Checo haciendo que la tabla se aprete un poco más. Un premio de Montreal con todos los ingredientes para que terminara siendo una gran carrera: lluvia, dos Safety Car, polémicas y sanciones (Pérez por ir en pista con el carro destrozado), duelos en pistas y muchas estrategias.
Verstappen ended up winning without being the fastest and without having the best car, the latter has been happening for a couple of awards where certain failures have been reported in its operation. The race could have been for anyone, Norris had everything to win as well as Russell. Hamilton finished fourth followed by the two Aston Martins that are still a couple of steps behind despite always going with improvements to the awards. Zero points for the Ferraris and Checo making the table a little tighter. A Montreal race with all the ingredients to end up being a great race: rain, two Safety Car, controversies and penalties (Perez for going on track with a wrecked car), duels on the track and many strategies.
La próxima carrera será en España en dos semanas en el circuito de Cataluña en Barcelona. Entre el segundo y el quinto hay 31 puntos nada más mientras que Max se ubica con 194 al frente. De haber ganado Norris se hubiera puesto mucho mejor pero bueno, esto nos dice que hay mundial y que parece haber más competencia que el año pasado.
The next race will be in Spain in two weeks at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Between second and fifth there are only 31 points while Max is in the lead with 194. Had Norris won, he would have been much better off, but hey, this tells us that there is a world championship and that there seems to be more competition than last year.
