Rewind to October 2024
It was halfway through October 2024 when I decided to hunt for some good deals of silver. In the back of my mind I also went hunting for something that could possibly be used as a secret Santa gift as this was an upcoming event.
The dealer from who I bought several times now had a big range of 1 oz silver rounds available so I naturally went hunting there first because I knew he's trustworthy so why go elsewhere? It was the first month where I knew we'd start to save on taxes and I felt buying some silver was a smart move.
I ended up picking four silver rounds for a nice price, and to my surprise in a matter of weeks, the silver price went up about 4 euros per ounce, making me feel extra smart buying 4 rounds instead of just 1 or 2. I don't have a steady plan of monthly buys at the moment because of some yearly bills coming up that I want to get behind us first so until then it's not regular in terms of it can be one round this month or 3 next, depending on other things.
Time to share the first one
I figured I'd share these four rounds within a matter of weeks but ended up publishing very little and then secret Santa was mostly a hot topic so here we are 3 months later and I still have to share all four of them with already new silver on the way as well.
The first one I'm sharing is the 2019 Barbados 1 dollar Flying Fish silver round. The reason I bought it was simpy because I think the fish is made very well, the design is cool, while I didn't even notice the water effect on the round yet until I had it in my hands. As always, I look up the rounds here in Europe to see if the seller is asking a fair price or adds a too big of a premium and with this round I found a 44 euro price on Numista and some other sites while it was listed for 35 euros at the seller.
When it arrived in the capsule, I was afraid the round was damaged and had spots, on both sides you can see some parts being damaged:
Luckily this was all on the capsule only!
Some more information
Here's what I found on Numista:
The information below gives some more insights about the flying fish which was nice to read because I know nothing about fish, lol. Insane that the longest flight of a flying fish was 45 seconds, I can't even imagine!
The coin mintage is 10000, and I have two of them!
I love the design
And I love it much more than I thought I would. This was one of these silver pieces that I didn't particularly bought because I love it so much but I thought it looked cool and didn't have it yet, add to it a good price and I figured it was probably a smart move to buy. The reason that I bought two was because he had two left and I was still considering what I could send for Secret Santa later and thought well maybe this one is optional.
When I held it in my hands I couldn't part with it anymore, lol, I just like the design of the fish and the water effect too much to part with either one. So I had to pick another piece from my collection instead.
The listing of this round was as above, so I didn't really expect the water effect on the design to be present because it looks more like a bit of dirt on the silver or shadow, at least that's what I thought.
And then you capture it in a different angle, and see this, it's really cool isn't it?
The other side is approved as well, yes, this is a silver piece I'm really happy with!
So that's part one of my backlog in silver pieces, I just received an email that one of the other pieces will arrive on Friday and two more on Monday, if all goes well. So the backlog will first grow a bit before shrinking lol.
Have a lovely day/night whatever timezone you're in! I'm hopping to bed and I have permission to sleep in tomorrow, woohoo, how lovely on a school day!
