Last Monday I thought it would be a quiet day for me. I had a whole list of things to do, but that I would finish calmly because I had the necessary time for that. I was walking down the street when the communicator of the Hermanos Sáiz Association (AHS) called me to let me know that I had to be at a television studio in the afternoon. I answered him very calmly, but when I hung up and processed everything he had told me I almost shouted: What?!!
The 43rd edition of the Caribbean Festival is being held in Santiago de Cuba from this Wednesday the 3rd. The AHS for this festival has a program of activities called "New Souls" and this time I found myself participating in the organizing committee. The interview on TV was precisely to discuss the most important activities that we would be doing.
Something that had me very tense was that the program was live and I knew that many people would be watching. Luckily, my friend Yoel Cipriano (@yoecipri) was with me, who would also be intervening. We went through makeup (which I'm not used to at all and I confess it bothered me a little on my face) and then, in the studio, we did a rehearsal before the broadcast. I was still very nervous. I didn't know that when two people are being interviewed at the same time, whoever sits closest to the announcer is the one who should speak, and that was the seat I chose. Anyway the director of the program gave me several tips to trigger my nervousness.
I was breathing for several minutes to relax until we were called. At that time, something surprising happened to me. It felt like home! I was very comfortable in front of the cameras, talking with confidence and specifying all the possible details. I looked very convincing and I think I managed to convey that to the audience. After the program was over, many people came up to me to congratulate me, both the staff and my friends who watched the program. This will be an experience that I will never forget.

El pasado lunes pensé que sería un día tranquilo para mí. Tenía toda una lista de cosas por hacer, pero que terminaría con calma porque disponía del tiempo preciso para eso. Me encontraba caminando por la calle cuando el comunicador de la Asociación Hermanos Sáiz (AHS) me llamó para avisarme que debía estar en la tarde en un estudio de televisión. Le respondí con mucha tranquilidad, pero cuando colgué y procesé todo lo que me había dicho casi que grito: ¡¿Qué?!
En Santiago de Cuba se está celebrando desde este miércoles 3 la 43 edición del Festival del Caribe. La AHS para este festival tiene un programa de actividades llamado "Almas Nuevas" y en esta ocasión me encontré participando en el comité organizador. La entrevista en la televisión era precisamente para comentar las actividades más importantes que estaríamos realizando.
Algo que me tenía muy tenso era que el programa era en vivo y sabía que muchas personas estarían viendo. Por suerte, junto a mí estaba mi amigo Yoel Cipriano (@yoecipri), quien también estaría interviniendo. Pasamos por maquillaje (cosa a la que no estoy acostumbrado en lo absoluto y confieso que me molestaba un poco en la cara) y luego, en el estudio, hicimos un ensayo previo a la transmisión. Yo seguía muy nervioso. No sabía que cuando se entrevistan a dos personas a la vez, quien se sienta más cerca del locutor es quien debe hablar, y ese fue el asiento que elegí. De todas maneras la directora del programa me dió varios consejos para disparar mi nerviosismo.
Estuve respirando durante varios minutos para relajarme hasta que nos llamaron. En ese entonces, pasó algo sorprendente para mí. ¡Me sentía como en casa! Estaba muy a gusto frente a las cámaras, hablando con seguridad y precisando todos los detalles posibles. Me veía muy confiado y creo que logré transmitir eso a la audiencia. Una vez terminado el programa, muchas personas se me acercaron a felicitarme, tanto el staff como mis amigos que vieron el programa. Esta será una experiencia que jamás voy a olvidar.
