Old Meta vs New

I recently returned to playing Splinterlands again. Having stopped for some months put me in a disadvantage since I find opponents with high level soulbound reward cards which I don't have. However, my old setups still work from time to time.

In this battle I used my bread and butter Water team.

Kelya - the best rare summoner in the Chaos Legion set in my opinion.

Baakjira - simply one of the best tanks. With slow, void and strengthen skills.

Djinn Oceanus - Once a great mage tank but fallen out of favor with the appearance of new cards. Still good though with 5 speed and void skill.

Deep Lurker - Great damage dealer with 4 attack and opportunity skill.

River Hellondale - Resurrect and Inspire skill makes this a good support card. He also deals decent magic damage.

Merdaali Guardian - Heal skill complements Baakjira well.

Swamp Spittler - Easily the best common soulbound reward card with 3 attack and Repair skill.

My opponent picked a level 4 Lobb Lowland, the soulbound Earth summoner. These summoners primary skill is the ability to summon Gladius cards. He also has -1 speed to the opponent which counters Kelya.

Grund - I remember this used to sell for $20. It's a very strong damage dealing tank with the Double strike skill.

Fungus Flinger - Not only with Martyr ability which empowers adjacent cards upon death it also has a Blind skill. My opponent placed this strategically between Grund and Quora to meet cards with Sniper and Opportunity skills in this case my Deep Lurker.

Quora - my favorite Gladiator card. Her kit is amazing that IMO she should be a legendary. Having both magic and melee attack it's the same as having double strike skill when placed in the tank position. She also has Bloodlust and Heal which makes her overpowered.

Goblin Psychic - Not only does this have Tank Heal it also has Affliction skill which prevents the enemy it hits from healing when the skill procs.

Fungus Fiend - 0 card to guard against sneak attack.

Venari Knifer - with Thorns skill to kill sneakers.

I won but I think the choice of Venari Knifer decided the battle since the card was useless in this fight. All of my opponent's damage dealers targeted Baakjira which is already very tough by itself, supported by a healer, repairer and resurrect makes it hard to take down. Maybe Hunter Jarx with 3 ranged attack and Snipe Skill was a better instead of Venari Knifer.

Splinterlands is still fun to play even using an "old" CL set against the newer reward cards and Rebellion set.
