A Tranquil Escape: Reflecting by the Shore at East Coast Park

in voilk •  3 days ago

I went to East Coast Park yesterday to catch the sunset. Although it was cloudy and not the most picturesque sunset, I still appreciated the beautiful scene of sunlight filtering through the clouds. Nature is always stunning, regardless of the conditions—it all depends on your perspective. Since I spend most of my time in the city, a view of the ocean offers a refreshing change, helping me relax and reflect.

Walking along the shore has a therapeutic effect, which is likely why so many people were there on a Thursday afternoon. There’s something incredibly calming about the rhythmic waves lapping against the shore. Their steady timing felt like an invitation to slow down and reflect on the past year while planning for the year ahead. For me, the shore is one of the best places to contemplate and set resolutions for the new year.

I took the bus and alighted at Block 45 in the Marine Terrace area. From there, it was about a 15-minute walk through apartment buildings and an underpass to reach the shore. It had been a while since my last visit to East Coast Park, so I felt a sense of excitement as I walked along the path. I was pleasantly surprised to see people jogging, cycling, and strolling. Families were gathered on the shore, with kids joyfully playing in the waves.

This is a great spot to hang out with friends and family or simply enjoy a quiet walk while snapping photos. While it may not compare to Siloso Beach or Palawan Beach in western Singapore, this coastline is still an excellent option for fun activities and relaxation.

Though there are no major commercial establishments in the area, you’ll find refreshment spots with vending machines for snacks and drinks. There’s also a bicycle rental shop, which is perfect for exploring the park faster and with more excitement.

Barbecue pits are available for rent, making it an ideal spot for a picnic with friends or colleagues. I remember my previous company organizing a barbecue event here, and it was a fantastic experience. Team-building events like these are not only cost-efficient but also incredibly enjoyable—who doesn’t love good food and a grilling session by the beach?

I also noticed an outdoor table with a sign that read, “Here to Listen.” It seemed like a service for anyone who needed someone to talk to, almost like a casual form of therapy. The concept is intriguing, especially in such a serene setting where the gentle breeze and soothing sound of waves enhance the experience.

My last stop was the fishing deck, located midway through the park. From here, you get a fantastic view of the shoreline, the vast ocean, and large ships anchored beyond the waves. Beneath the deck is a canal, a popular fishing spot. I saw a group of people fishing, and it seemed like a calming and rewarding activity.

While taking photos, I noticed one guy catching a catfish. As soon as he reeled it in, the others gathered around him, excited to see his catch. They praised his good luck, and it seemed like he had already caught quite a few, which he stored in his cooler for dinner. He was thrilled with his success.

I watched him use pliers to remove the sharp spines from the catfish’s jaw, warning the others to be cautious as the spines could sting if handled carelessly. It was a lively and cheerful moment for everyone there.

East Coast Park offers a serene escape from the bustling city, providing a perfect spot to unwind, reflect, and enjoy nature's beauty. Whether it's walking along the shore, cycling, or simply soaking in the calming ambiance, the park has something for everyone. My visit reminded me of the simple joys of being outdoors and the value of taking time to recharge amidst tranquil surroundings.
