Hello friends
Here is new work of art. It's my presentation (my misconception of boxing Day😅)
I thought it was to honour the sport🥊
Here are some facts & fun facts about Boxing Day:
- Origins of the Name: The term "Boxing Day" is believed to come from the tradition of wealthy households giving boxes of gifts, money, or food to their servants and the poor.
- Celebrated on December 26: Boxing Day is observed the day after Christmas in several countries, especially those with a British heritage, such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
- Sports Tradition: It's a big day for sports, particularly in the UK, with football (soccer) matches and horse racing events being popular activities.
- Shopping Frenzy: Similar to Black Friday in the US, Boxing Day is known for massive sales and discounts, making it one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
- Public Holiday: In many countries, Boxing Day is a public holiday, giving people an extra day off to relax or spend with family.
- Caroling Connection: In some traditions, it was a day when people went caroling and collected money for the less fortunate in boxes, hence the name.
- Different Names: In South Africa, it’s called the Day of Goodwill, and in Ireland, it’s known as St. Stephen’s Day, honoring the first Christian martyr.
- Charitable Spirit: The holiday has long been associated with giving back, whether through donations or volunteering.
- Hunting Tradition: Historically, it was also a day for fox hunting in the UK, although this practice has largely been replaced by other outdoor activities.
- International Variations: While it’s a big day in Commonwealth nations, other countries like the US do not typically observe Boxing Day.
