You know that feeling when you're with friends at home and don't have much of an idea of what to do? You can, of course, play music or a movie from Netflix / Youtube, but it's often the case that everyone has their own tastes and it's hard to make it convenient for everyone. This serious problem has been answered by the Nintendo releasing games of the Mario Party series since 1998 starting with the Nintendo 64 console! A game that, by design, can be played by your immediate family members who have not had much to do with video games before. Of the more recent titles, we have Mario Party superstars and Super Mario Party to choose from. I own both of these games, but in this post I will describe Mario Party superstars. There will be time for the other title yet!
My beginnings with ''party'' games go back to my young years. The first game of this type was Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 released in 2007, which I played with my friend on one computer. The game was incredibly fun and addictive. Moving to the present, while in Olsztyn in one of the electronics stores I came across a stand of Nintendo games. After briefly browsing through the games, I just came across Mario Party superstars, rated by many critics as the best party game on the Switch. As I own this console, I decided to buy it. I will finally have something to play with family and friends. It was a bit of a difficult decision, as Big N games are relatively expensive compared to other consoles.
What is the entertainment based on? After selecting the characters, we choose the settings for our gameplay. We can adjust the difficulty of mini-games / gameplay time and the difficulty of bots if there are any (from one player to four). This is especially helpful if our crew includes people who are not experienced in games. Then we choose a map and. we play. On the downside, I would like to add here a rather long introduction to the game, although for the first time it is sometimes helpful. Fortunately, we can adjust the length of the dialogues in the game settings.
The goal of the game is to collect stars, which cost 20 coins. To get the coveted coins and star, we have to move around the map with a classic cube. The map consists of many types of fields, such as bank / item event / regular event and bowser. The bowser field is particularly dangerous, as it can result in the loss of coins or even a star. This rule applies not only to you, but can also affect other players (among the randomized options there are some where everyone loses something).
Items are acquired on the board or in the store for coins. They can change the result of dice, change the location of stars or players, and a key that opens a gate to a locked location on the board. Each board also has its own mechanics. For example, the most difficult map has a day and night system that affects the ghost fields. Some are active during the day and others at night. Thanks to the ghosts, we can take a star from another player or steal his coins for a certain amount.
After a round of dice rolling, it's time for a mini-game. The mini-games take place in 1v3, 2v2 and everyone-on-everyone modes. Winners earn coins and victory, which are totaled at the end of the entire game. The best players at the end can earn a star by their achievements, such as the greatest distance traveled, the highest number of coins earned in the game and wins in mini-games.
The game is exciting and really, it is an interesting alternative to spend time with your family or friends. However, this does not mean that it is a game without flaws. Moving on to the disadvantages I would like to mention:
The small number of playable characters. There are only 10 characters to choose from, which is a shame, because the Mario universe is full of interesting characters. An example is Super Mario Party (2018) where there are as many as 20 of them and each of them has its own unique cube, although this mechanic with cubes I dislike a bit
Dead online. There were times when I didn't have people at home to play together and I reached for the online service available in the game. Unfortunately, the game searches for a very long time and usually does not search for everyone to play. Because of this, there must be a bot. Very often players just leave the game and are replaced by a bot, and this kills the whole atmosphere of the game, where all this time you sent emoticons to each other and there is silence. You can, of course, play alone with bots, but for me that's not so great. After all, it's a party game, so why would I play it alone with a computer?
No mini-games with joycon motion. A huge plus of the Nintendo Switch console is its controllers, which have motion controllers in them. However, the game uses old mini-games from earlier installments, where this wasn't even an option. The developers could have been tempted to add their own mini-games where this would have been used, or implement it in the old mini-games. With such a solution, one might also be tempted to have a game option where it disables this feature (this would be appreciated by players who recall with nostalgia to previous installments of the series).
Summary
I do not regret the purchase. Despite these flaws, it is still a good Mario Party and I am very happy with my decision. To this day, I still recall the best moments from the game, at which I laughed with my family. It reminded me of one very important point: games are supposed to bring people together. It is great that there are still such alternatives for Sunday gamers, and they are handled by one of the largest gaming corporations in the world. Można oczywiście puścić muzykę lub film z Netflix / Youtube, ale często jest tak, że każdy ma swoje gusta i jest trudno o udogodnienie wszystkim. Na ten poważny problem odpowiedziała marka Nintendo wypuszczając gry serii Mario Party już od 1998 poczynając od konsoli Nintendo 64! Gra, która w założeniu mogą zagrać twoi najbliżsi z rodziny, którzy wcześniej nie mieli dużo wspólnego z grami wideo. Z najnowszych tytułów mamy do wyboru Mario Party superstars oraz Super Mario Party. Obie te gry posiadam, ale w tym poście opiszę Mario Party superstars. Na drugi tytuł przyjdzie jeszcze czas!

Na czym polega rozrywka? Po wybraniu bohaterów wybieramy ustawienia dla naszej rozgrywki. Możemy dostosować trudność minigierek / czas rozgrywki oraz trudność botów jeżeli jakieś będą (od jednego gracza do czterech). Jest to szczególnie pomocne, jeżeli w naszej załodze znajdą się osoby które nie są doświadczone w grach. Następnie wybieramy mapę i... gramy. Na minus chciałbym tutaj dodać dosyć długie wprowadzenie do gry, chociaż przy pierwszym razie bywa pomocne. Na szczęście możemy dostosować długości dialogów w ustawieniach gry.
Celem gry jest zbieranie gwiazdek, które kosztują 20 monet. Aby zdobyć upragnione monety oraz gwiazdkę musimy poruszać się po mapie klasyczną kostką. Mapa składa się z wielu rodzajów pól, takich jak bank / event z przedmiotami / zwykły event oraz bowser. Pole bowser jest szczególnie niebezpieczne, ponieważ może skutkować utratą monet lub nawet gwiazdki. Zasada ta tyczy się nie tylko ciebie, ale też może wpłynąć na innych graczy (spośród losowanych opcji są też takie gdzie każdy coś traci).
Przedmioty zdobywamy na planszy lub w sklepie za monety. Potrafią zmienić wynik kostki, zmienić położenie gwiazdki lub graczy oraz klucz, który otwiera bramę do zamkniętej lokalizacji na planszy. Każda plansza ma również swoje mechaniki. Dla przykładu najtrudniejsza mapa ma system dnia i nocy, które wpływają na pola duchów. Jedne są aktywne w dzień, a inne w nocy. Dzięki duchom możemy za pewną kwotę zabrać gwiazdkę innemu graczowi lub ukraść jego monety.
Po turze rzucania kostką przychodzi czas na mini-grę. Mini-gry odbywają się w trybach 1v3, 2v2 i każdy na każdego. Wygrani zdobywają monety i zwycięstwo, które na końcu całej gry są podsumowane. Najlepsi gracze na końcu mogą zdobyć gwiazdkę przez swoje dokonania, takie jak największy odbyty dystans, największa ilość zdobytych monet w grze oraz zwycięstwa w mini-grach.
Gra jest ekscytująca i naprawdę, jest to ciekawa alternatywa na spędzenie czasu ze swoją rodziną lub przyjaciółmi. Nie oznacza to jednak, że jest to gra bez wad. Przechodząc do wad chciałbym wspomnieć o:
Mała ilość grywalnych postaci. Do wyboru jest tylko 10 postaci, a szkoda, ponieważ uniwersum Mario jest pełna ciekawych postaci. Przykładem może być Super Mario Party (2018) gdzie jest ich aż 20 i każdy z nich posiada własną unikalną kostkę, choć tę mechanikę z kostkami trochę nie lubię
Martwe online. Bywało tak, że nie miałem w domu osób do wspólnej gry i sięgałem po usługę online dostępną w grze. Niestety gry szuka bardzo długo i najczęściej nie wyszukuje wszystkich do gry. Przez to musi być jakiś bot. Bardzo często gracze po prostu wychodzą z gry i zastępuje ich bot, a to zabija cały klimat gry, gdzie przez cały ten czas wysyłaliście sobie emotki i następuje cisza. Można oczywiście grać samemu z botami, ale dla mnie to nie jest takie super. W końcu jest to gra party, więc dlaczego miałbym sam grać w nią z komputerem?
Brak mini-gier z ruchem joycon'ów. Ogromnym plusem konsoli Nintendo Switch są jego kontrolery, które posiadają kontrolery ruchu w sobie. Jednak gra korzysta ze starych mini-gier z wcześniejszych odsłon, gdzie nie było takiej nawet możliwości. Twórcy mogli pokusić się o dodanie swoich mini-gier, gdzie byłoby to wykorzystywane, lub zaimplementować je w starych mini-grach. Przy takim rozwiązaniu można pokusić się również o opcji gry, gdzie wyłącza tę funkcję (docenili by to gracze, które wspominają z nostalgią do poprzednich odsłon serii).
Podsumowanie
Nie żałuję zakupu. Mimo tych wad, jest to nadal dobre Mario Party i jestem bardzo szczęśliwy ze swojej decyzji. Do dzisiaj wspominam najlepsze momenty z gry, przy której śmiałem się ze swoją rodziną. Przypomniało mi to jedną bardzo ważną kwestię: gry mają łączyć ludzi. Jest to wspaniałe, że nadal istnieją takie alternatywy dla niedzielnych graczy i zajmuje się nimi jedna z największych korporacji z dziedziny gier na świecie.
