In my 24 years of existence on this Earth, I have experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of relationships. There was a time I got heartbroken by a girl and decided I would never enter into a relationship again, but here am I, having the best relationship experience of my life.
There are various kinds of relationships a person could be involved in. We have the love birds (usually not married but dating each other in love), we equally have the married couples (legally together in love), and then we have the legendary set of people which we call "the singles".
For now, I would say I fall under the category of the love birds, lol. But I was not always in a relationship, Infact if I had written this article a few months back, I would have been talking about my single life journey thus far. That was the period of my life when I learned more about myself, and my aspirations.
Those were the days when I was free as a bird to do and go wherever I felt like going. It was while I was single that I had hobbies and went on adventures, but for now, my partner is demanding all the time in the world to be spent on her.
I somehow miss the days I was single because I had the chance to grow and learn how to become a man and value myself even without the help of a woman.
This was when I became independent and was focused on a better future. I really learned alot about my personality and willpower. Until the love birds made me feel that I was missing alot being single, and I started searching for a girlfriend.
I eventually went for Cynthia my old-time crush and she agreed to date me. I have had a crush on Cynthia since our early days in high school, but I didn't tell her because I thought I was too focused on my future to be in a relationship.
The relationship started well, and I was having those "butterfly in my tummy" feelings with her. She was the first girl I ever truly gave all of my heart, but barely 2 months into the relationship, she started showing me strange attitudes.
Cynthia would always avoid visiting me or replying to my messages. She was avoiding me, but whenever I confronted her, she would tell me she was too busy to reply. I kept calm until I caught her with her new boyfriend a few days later.
I was so heartbroken that my first relationship didn't work out well, but maybe that was part of the learning process because I don't think any girl would be able to break my heart again, lol.
Now that I have found a better replacement for Cynthia, I am making sure I play my part well not to cause a breakup. It's just as if I am practicing how to become a faithful married man, lol. This dating phase of a relationship has alot of similarities with legally married relationships.
Although my new girlfriend and I aren't married yet, we still expect so much commitment, dedication, and faithfulness from each other. I believe this type of relationship is designed to challenge us, comfort us, and celebrate with us, providing a mirror through which we see ourselves together forever in the near future. If the dating phase of a relationship is perfect, then we should be expecting a perfect married couple too.
I have not gotten to the stage of marriage yet, but I think I know alot about married couples since my dad and mum are still happily together. I see marriage as a long-life journey between two people who have agreed to support each other throughout the days of their lives.
To me, I think marriage is not easy, as it requires the art of patience from each couple. It is a sacred space that allows couple to share their dreams, confront fears, and celebrate successes together, knowing that no matter what lies ahead, they are not alone.
