THE LIE THAT SAVED

Looking back now, I can only laugh at the things I did when I was in school, especially the lies told. By the way, this isn't one of my mischievous behaviors because it happened in my final year. And you won't blame me too much considering I wasn't just saving my head, but that of my faculty as a whole. In fact, I was also saving students from other departments with just one lie. I can joke a lot about things, but if I'm being serious, I do hate it when I have to tell a lie. So many times I have told lies selfishly to save myself of which I end up beating myself for it at the end of the day. But even in all these, the lie I usually refuse to tell is the one that puts others in trouble.

Back to my story, so we had our first semester exams to write, and according to the time table my department was writing computer programming first. The thing about the course is that the lecturer had only come to school twice in the whole semester, the first time he didn't teach anyone, and the second time he only told us to start paying for our textbooks and did a general introduction of the course, gave tests and assignments on it the same day. Computer programming (c++) is compulsory for all departments under the faculty of engineering. My department did it in 200 level, and were to repeat it again in our finals.

So technically only my department should know computer programming because we were doing it for the second time. But remember I dropped out of school at one point in time, so the set I was with didn't learn computer programming in their 200 level as this lecturer was also the one teaching the course then. During my time (200 level) he was more serious with his job and would come to school every day to ensure he taught us the basic practicals in programming, but now he was done doing all that good. According to him, the school doesn't pay him enough for that stress.he teaches in about three universities and pays attention to my school the least.

During the test I was the only one who performed well having a good foundation in programming. He was shocked with my performance and remembered that I was among the set he gave sleepless nights teaching computer programming. Since then the entire faculty had settled in their minds my sitting position in the exams. During the exams the faculty decided that we will write the exams the same day and not follow the exam timetable that separated the departments. We had to go to the exam officer to explain why we needed the change, and we lied that it was because the lecturer said it was one question he set for all departments. The exam officer asked for the phone number of the lecturer, and we gave him a students phone number who pretended to be the lecturer

Actually, it was just as we lied, the lecturer set the same question for all departments. Now the faculty of engineering wasn't writing the exam alone, we had computer science year one and three students writing it with us and for that they decided to swap the courses they were having that day so we can all write together. Truth be told, we all wanted to write together because nobody knows computer programming like I do. Not just writing for myself but for others. I had to even take some of the question papers and answer some of the questions I didn't write so we don't end up writing the same thing. We were almost caught in fact the guy I wrote for was already caught, I had to switch his questions with mine and did so with another and that was how he was free. At the end of the day, no one had a carryover because of the corporate lie we told.
