🦉 The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)
- Phoenicurus Greek: dark red phoinix, oura tail
Sometimes in the summer, walking past bushes in the forest or even in the yard of a house, you can hear a sharp and loud "Pheet!" This is a danger signal from these birds when you pass by their nest or their mate or children. But you won't see the bird itself if it's a female. If it's a male, on the contrary, he'll jump out of the bushes, show himself and hint that you follow him, to lead you away from the nest or the children.
In the spring it is not easy to get close to them, but you can watch from afar as the male sits on a branch and sings a song that is leisurely, not loud, and resembles the song of the willow warbler.
