With his last breaths, the old scientist looked up at the starry sky. The lights of the city were fading, eclipsed by the vast cosmic canvas.
-Can you see it, Father? -He snorted hoarsely- There is my God. Not in myths and legends, but in the primordial forces that gave birth to everything.
The priest beside him swallowed spittle, his face a mask of dismay. He had never witnessed such heresy before in his life.
-Intertwined quantum energies, oscillating from the beginning of time, -the dying man continued- Therein lies true divinity, not in archaic dogmas.”
His eyes riveted on the frozen clergyman.
-Fear not, Father. Soon I will be one with the stars I have studied so hard.
With a final reverent sigh, the scientist expired. His fingers relaxed, releasing the crucifix the priest had handed him earlier. The one blessing he refused to the end.
Stunned, the Father stood up and walked away from the scene, shaking his head in disbelief. Never before had he felt so uncertain about his faith.
