    Hello friends of Daily Blog!

Today I want to share with you a unique experience. Yesterday I accompanied my mom and a group of friends to a very special exhibition at the home of the talented artisan Gloria Francisca Sanchez Reyes, known as Panchy, who signs her works with that name.

Panchy is a great artist and lives on Bellavista Street, between Colón and 39, in building 516, apartment 10, in Havana's Nuevo Vedado neighborhood. She was recently widowed and now lives alone, since her whole family has emigrated. Despite the difficulties, she has been organizing an exhibition to show her works. This was a dream she had shared with her husband and, despite his tragic death from Covid-19, she wanted to fulfill it in honor of both of them.

The works are delicate to transport, as she has framed them in frames with glass to protect them. Although he has made several attempts to move them to a gallery, all have been unsuccessful. Therefore, she decided to turn her own home into an exhibition gallery for her tapestries. The exhibition is entitled "Commitment", as she feels very committed to her work and to the legacy left to her by her late husband, who was always her support.

In her home, Panchy has created a guest book where everyone who visits her signs and leaves comments. The book has a beautiful cover made with her own hands. This artist is dedicated to creating tapestries using different techniques and fabrics of various shades and textures. Although she is a chemical engineer by training, since she discovered the world of handicrafts, she reoriented her career towards this field. She has participated in workshops of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and has delved into drawing and other disciplines related to the visual arts.

In her works she uses the Patchwork technique, known in Cuba as Parche. With small pieces of fabric or scraps, she creates different compositions. She also uses other techniques such as stained glass and water color. Her works can be seen distributed in three rooms of her house. In the main room, there are a large number of paintings that reflect her patience and ability to put together each piece of fabric and create beautiful tapestries. There is also a small marble table on which two works by her husband, who practiced the origami technique, are displayed. They are really beautiful works, and the table decorations are large woven carnations.

Since 2002, Panchy has been a member of the Cuban Association of Artisans and Artists (ACAA) and has joined the group "Santa Cecilia", participating in several community projects. Subsequently, she became a member of the Grupo Plástico Nacional and the Grupo Parche. Becoming the Director of the Sociocultural Project Light and Cloth, whose objective is to capture on canvas the designs of the glasswork of the Historical Center of Havana. This work resulted in the book "VIDRIERIA Luz y Tela", published in 2022 by CITMATEL publishing house.

Her works are scattered in various parts of the world, such as the Dominican Republic, United States, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, Italy, among other countries. One of the aspects that stands out in her work, as you may have noticed, are the butterflies that, according to her, define the path of life, it is an insect that begins its life at ground level, undergoes a metamorphosis and flies through the blue sky with erratic movements giving signals. It is so inspiring to hear her speak with such vehemence about butterflies and life, these are very well founded criteria.
