Wednesday was all about our 5th grade school field trip to Dorney Park, an amusement park near Allentown, Pennsylvania. We left at 8.30am for the 2.5 hour bus ride there, and by the time we finally got through the gates of the park, it was nearly 11am.
Me and another teacher were responsible for six scholars while we were in the park. Luckily, we had a bunch of gutsy little risk takers in our group. So instead of riding some of the more basic carnival rides, we went for the big thrill rollercoasters with twists, turns, and overhead loops.
In the four hours we were in the amusement park, we got to go on three amazing rollercoasters, enjoy an air-conditioned burger for lunch, and give the kiddos enough time to do a bit of shopping for gifts. And of course, I got to rack up over 14000 steps.
The highlight of the day was riding The Iron Menace, a brand new ride debuted for the 2024 season. Just look at the crazy stats on this rollercoaster: a 3-second hold as you face directly to the ground, a ridiculous 95-degree first drop, and some extended inversions. I'm especially grateful for my partner teacher, who waited an extra cycle to allow me to ride in the front row of the rollercoaster.
The ride back to Brooklyn was uneventful. Most of us were completely drained after running around in the midday heat, so many slept or stayed mostly quiet in their seats. I know I didn't do much of anything besides jam some #splinterlands battles on my mobile.
By the time I finally got back to my apartment at 7pm, I was gassed. It took all the willpower I had to drag myself to the shower, and I must have been asleep by 10pm. Talk about a well-earned rest, I don't think I've ever been as tired from a day of school. Those field trips really take it out of you. Hopefully, the rest did a body good, and I'll be good to go for another productive Thursday. Until next time...
