Good morning, good afternoon, good evening to you lovelies, depending on when and where you are reading from. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. We will discuss divorce as one of our topics this week.
Divorce is such a broad subject that time will fail me if I have to cover the subject entirely, but I will break it down with these questions; what is divorce? What is divorce rate? What are the causes of divorce? How are children affected by divorce? How can divorce be avoided?
According to the encyclopedia britainnica, divorce is an act by which a valid marriage is dissolved , usually freeing the parties to remarry . It is also defined as to have the marriage of a husband and wife ended by an official or legal process.
Divorce rate has skyrocketed that in my country Nigeria for example , crude divorce rate among married persons aged 18-85 is 13.4. 'This suggests that 3percent of marriages in Nigeria are dissolved through divorce or separation' says the punch news paper.
According to statistics , united states of America occupies the sixth position in divorce rate in the world with 50 to 60%, usually initiated by women. One may like to ask 'what are the causes of divorce? Divorce is caused by the following:

    Infidelity
    Lack of commitment
    Lack of communication
    Financial problems
    Domestic violence
    Addiction
    Too much conflict and arguing.

The emotional and mental effects of divorce is not only felt by the partners, it's impact on the children from divorced homes is overwhelming The effects include:
Academic difficulties such as having low grades and school dropouts
    Drug abuse
    Depression Anger and anxiety
    Prone to illness.

In addition, many children blame themselves for the divorce thinking that they either caused it or cold have prevented it. Although some people considering divorce tell themselves that it will be better for their children, research does not support that claim. "Divorce makes children miserable" writes childcare expert Penelope leach .
Having discussed the devastating effects of divorce, how can it be avoided?

    Spend time together
    Commitment
    Remember why you got married
    Reassess your needs
    Communication
    Be resolved
    Set a goal
    Have more sex

Have discussed divorce and it's devastating effects, it is clear that divorce is not an answer or resort to marital differences . Research shows that partners from divorced homes are more likely to experience worst situation in second marriage because they chose to attack each other instead of attacking the problem. Thanks for reading.
