Since I was a kid, it has been my dream to actually experience flying. Who wouldn't be excited by the idea of riding a plane, right? Back then, I used to think that " One day, I'll get to ride a plane too ," but it seemed impossible to happen. That is, until an opportunity came that I just couldn't miss—a vacation outside our hometown.
Since classes had ended during this time, our parents and my aunt decided that my siblings and I—me, my twin, and our youngest brother—would take a vacation at our cousins' house in Silay City, Negros Occidental. It's been two years since we last saw each other, so I was beyond excited to see them again. We grew up together here in Cebu, but they moved to Silay a few years ago. I missed them so much and was curious about what's happening in their lives now. But there was another reason for my excitement—this was going to be my very first time on a plane. Of course, I was nervous too because I had no idea what to do at the airport. So, I did my research, watched videos and prepared myself for the airport processes to make sure everything would go smoothly.
Finally, the day of our flight to Silay City has arrived. As the eldest, I took care of everything from our belongings to handling the digital boarding passes that our parents provided. We left early, knowing we still had two rides, a bus & a taxi, before reaching Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
Thankfully, we arrived early at the airport despite a bit of traffic. While waiting for the boarding time, my siblings and I entertained ourselves by taking pictures to update our parents. Afterwards, I went to CR and upon entering, I couldn't help but notice the modern design of their comfort room, it's so elegant and neat.
Hours passed and it was time to board. Upon entering the plane, the friendly smiles of the flight attendants greeted us, and I couldn't help but feel the excitement.
I wanted to sit by the window to enjoy the view, but my twin sister got the seat, so I just asked her to take a video. Despite the excitement, I couldn't hide a little nervousness as we flew through the air since this is my first time. But after a few minutes, I eventually relaxed and enjoy the moment.
After about an hour, we arrived at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport. The ride was very fast, and finally, I saw my cousins waiting for us. We hugged tightly and I almost cried tears of joy seeing them again.
When we arrived at my cousins' house, we immediately planned a fun movie night. We cooked pancit canton, fries, and opened chips for our snacks while watching the popular horror movie currently in the Philippines, Mallari.
After the movie, we played a card game with a hilarious twist, where the loser got their face drawn on with lipstick as a consequence.
With so many rounds, only my one cousin didn't lose and she became our photographer laughing at us and taking pictures while the rest of us washed our lipstick-covered faces in the bathroom. We couldn't stop laughing at how funny we all looked.
My first night in Silay City was filled with joy. From my first plane ride with my siblings to the simple yet memorable bonding moments with my cousins, it was truly “one for the books.” I realized how fulfilling it is to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.
Hivers, do you also have moments like these—your first time trying something scary but rewarding? My advice to you is to don't be afraid to try. And remember, cherish the moment with your loved ones. Simple moments like playing card games or movie night will be etched in the heart forever.
