Happy New Year to all of you, dear fans of cool street art! It's the start of another year, so I thought I should celebrate it with my own contest - provided the StreetArt community is okay with me piggypacking on their weekly contest, which by the way is one of the coolest ongoing things on this wonderful blockchain: People from around the world can post any interesting mural, graffiti, stenciling, crocheting around trees, or any other form of art expressed in public urban environments. Not only that, but the creators of this exciting contest pick out the best ones, and share it in their weekly post. The three top choices even win a prize, something that has come my way a few times, so now I feel like giving something back. Of course, none of this would have happened without the right inspiration, so let's get down to it:
Four Girls out on the Town
I walked by this mural the other day, and immediately I felt the strike of something familiar. But first of all, I took the pic, thinking about adding it into my Mexican Murals post collection, and of course the CCC's Street Art Contest. For those who'd like to check it out themselves, the exact location is the corner of Ave. Progreso and Ave. Minería in the Escandón neighborhood of Mexico City, as marked on WorldMapPin. The place is some kind of eatery, which I am sure to check out soon, and write a post about it... Also, notice how the door handles, where the mural has been painted on, have become handles of the beer jugs the ladies in the center are holding! A very cool feature.
The image is nothing unusual, really. In fact, it is a quite typical sight in Mexico City: four girls having a drink, probably on one of the many rooftop terraces with a nice view of the skyline. - I know, it's super "fresa" (not super rich, but materially well off), but there's no point in ignoring it. - Also, the genetic diversity among them is a common characteristic for this city, even, or especially, among the fresa strata: One girl has strong indigenous features, the other one is very Spanish looking, while one is too fair to be even Iberian. And the fourth one looks super exotic. South or East Asian maybe? Who knows, and who cares? They're four young Mexican friends, who got together to share a drink.
Who Are They? Take a Good Look!
So far for the obvious. But as I mentioned, there was a very familiar feeling I had when I glanced at this image for the first time, though it took me a while to realize why. These young women are famous... in fact very famous! Chances are you have seen them somewhere, even if you may not know their names. Have you identified one of them? If so, this could be your chance to win. If not, check out the sky in the background, which is the only hint I am giving...
