TOPIC: ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE

🖊️COMMENTARY
There is no clear definition of a happy or successful marriage. The meaning of happy or successful marriage depends on the individual. However, a happy or successful marriage is one in which both spouses feel they are being treated with respect and dignity. They feel loved and valued by their spouses. It is built on a foundation of trust, respect, open communication and peace of mind. Successful marriage is not easy. There are prices to be paid, commitment of both spouses.
The following are some essential ingredients to help build a happy or successful marriage:
👉🏿LIVING AS FRIENDS:
Your best and confidant friend is your spouse. A true friend is a person who identify with us in any situation. A true friend does not accept you based on riches.
I advocate that the church, mostly the Assemblies of God Nigeria and the world should allow the unmarried youths to start with friendship relationship which will lead to marriage at the end. But let youths be strictly cautioned to shun every type of immortality even the appearance of evil.
Allow the unmarried youths to date, move together and be acquainted with themselves before marriage. We that marriage is like a garment which when once you wear it, you cannot wear it off until death separates you. Therefore, it is best to marry your own best friend. Marry as friends, maintain the marriage as friends and end up as friends.
👉🏿Mutual respect.
No person likes to be underrated. We have our dignities. Husbands should not look down on their wives, and wives must not disrespect their husbands. Respect, they say, is reciprocal. Everyone has right to be honoured.
👉🏿The ability to communicate your feelings.
Barbara M. Montgomery says, "Quality communication in marriage is defined as the interpersonal, transactional, symbolic process" by which husband and wife achieve and maintain understanding of each other. The emphasis on good and qualitative Communication cannot be over emphasized. Every marriage is prone to misunderstanding. It takes qualitative communication to remove that mis for understanding to have its place.
👉🏿 The Ability to Forgive.
The ability to seek and grant forgiveness is one of the most important factors contributing to happy marriage and a lifetime of love. Forgiveness has many health dividends in marriage: (i) lowers the risk of heart attack; (ii) improves cholesterol levels and sleep; and (ii) reduces pain, blood pressure, and levels of anxiety, depression and stress. Above all, forgiving your spouse helps to maintain cordial relationship with God and one-another (Matt.
6:12, 14;1 Pet. 3:7).
👉🏿The ability to make decisions and settle conflicts
Always make up this because the decision is yours and the results of the decision remains yours too.
