Having to do digital minimalism sometimes makes me nervous because I feel maybe in some weeks time I might be needing that particular app that I thought wasn’t useful at the moment, but it’s actually really good to free up your phone once in a while, think carefully about the apps that needs to go, and why they really need to go, most of the times the apps really occupy alot of space on our devices without actually serving a really good purpose, one app that gave me that impression was the X app (formally known as Twitter).
I took a step back and thought about it carefully, I don’t normally tweet and I don’t find the app funny, although everything that ends on instagram begins from X, what actually prompted me to let go of the app was that it has so many adult content videos in it, you can’t scroll for 5 mins and not see so many NSFW content, its just so much on the app and its disturbing, I always turned it off on my data usage in phone so that I don’t even get notifications from it.
Also if there’s an app that really needs minimalism on my phone then it should be my G-mail, with this app I’m really nervous because I don’t even know where to begin, I have subscribed to so many websites and they keep sending notifications everyday, my gmail has over 10,000 unread messages. I don’t even know how I ended up subscribing to so much, every time I open my mail, I feel like its after my whole damn life. If there’s any way I should start its obviously by unsubscribing to the unimportant websites.
Other apps like snapchat and instagram aren’t really giving me issues but lets about tiktok, that app really makes me clingy to my phone, it takes my data everytime! This app really catches me off guard, I’m always online for hours on the app, watching and laughing and sending streaks too forgetting that I have to actually write here or do some other things outside my phone. Recently I told myself that I wouldn’t log in for a whole day, and It was really going well untill my streak partner called said that he hasn’t seen me online, then and there I turned on the data for tiktok and continued. I’m just telling myself that some how or someday I might just delete the app to atleast focus on some other things and also reduce my screen time.
A clutter-free digital lifestyle to me feels like a breath of fresh air and also having a clean, minimalist workplace both for my mind and devices, because I get to focus on other physical things, I get to have mental clarity by putting a stop to endless notifications and random files and lastly having to enjoy more digital privacy there by reducing unused accounts and apps.
