Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

However, on the 26th one, I have decided that it is big enough to call this series a Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

In this series, I will review one unit at a time, picking them randomly.

So let me spin the wheel again and see what I get:

    Black Templars, High Marshall Helbrecht

    10th Edition Index Cards

Aha! The first Black Templar entry and it just so happens to the big boss of them all - High Marshall Helbrecht!

The Black Templars are a Successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists whose original leader was the Champion and master Swordsman of the Imperial Fists Legion - Sigismund.

Sigismund swore to never stop crusading and therefore the Black Templars never settled in one place and remained a fleet based Chapter. Due to the Codex Astartes forbidding more than 1,000 Space Marines being under the command of a sinlg leader, should a Black Templar Crusade fleet manage to increase their number to near that level, the Crusade would split off and a new Marshall would be promoted to lead a Crusade off in another direction.

The Black Templars would then continue to pick up new recruits on every world that they visit.

They are zealots and in a word: Templars.

Let's see what the big guy of the Black Templars does! He counts as their Chapter Master.

    Stats

    Movement 6"
    Toughness 4
    Save 2+/4++
    Wounds 5
    OC 2

    Weapons

    Ranged:
    Ferocity - Range 24", Attacks 2, Hits on 2+, Strength 5, AP-1, Damage 2
    Anti-infantry 4+and Devastating Wounds
This means that when this gun rolls to Wound against infantry, rolls of 4,5 and 6 are Devastating Wounds and no saves can be rolled for it!

    Melee:

He has a two-option close combat profile. One with lots of attacks to kill hordes and the other to enable him to hurt big things.

    Sword of the High Marshals

    One-handed
    12 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, Strength 6, Ap-3, 1 Damage each

    OR
    Two-handed
    6 Attacks, Hitting on 2+, Strength 8, AP-3, Damage 3

Two handed does more raw damage and can hurt higher toughness units, while the one-handed will kill more 1 wound models.

    Abilities

    Crusade of Wrath
Models in this model's unit get +1 Strength to Melee weapons. Since its "While this model is leading a unit" that means he too. So the above are Strength 7 and 9 respectively. Also units score Critical Hits on a 5+ in melee!

This is great to pair with the Black Templar Vows where they can get either Lethal Hits or Sustained Hits in melee

    High Marshal
Every turn, at the start of the Fight Phase, select a unit in engagement with this model's unit, Roll a dice:
    1 - nothing
    2-3 - Deal D3 Mortal Wounds
    4-5 - Deal 3 Mortal Wounds
    6 - Deal 3 + D3 Mortal Wounds

Another no-brainer, instant Damage before anyone gets a chance to strike. Better than even Fights First in some instances where you can kill units before they even have had the chance to hit you!

Awesome unit and at this point I would say that it is a no-brainer and auto-include in a Black Templars army!

    Thank you for reading!
