AI is developing so fast that it is hard to keep up. It is changing how we perceive the world and creativity. I always thought that the arts would be one of the safest areas to be when AI happens but here we are and it is one of the first fields to be attacked by these new tools.
We have all by now seen the amazing AI images that can be created with just a few lines of text. The ethics of this is not something I have fully formed an opinion on so, don't want to make any value judgments just yet. I find it fascinating and like magic and if anything, it is my lack of understanding that I fear most about it.
Well even before I have come to grasp these static images now they have added video creating as a string to its bow and my mind is blown. How many jobs can this technology affect in the movie-making business?
I have seen early attempts at this and have been underwhelmed with how the temporal consistency quickly breaks up and the video turns to mush but Open AI has put a major crack in this nut. The examples on the website leave me speechless. I watched in awe as the Japanese lady walks through the street and was mesmerised but the way the leather from her jacket moved with such realism. We zoom closer and her face shows the imperfections and the weathering of a life lived. Spellbinding
I could spend the rest of this post using bigger and bigger words to wax lyrical about the whole thing but wanted just share to prepare you for the news to start talking about how dangerous this technology will be.
Open AI (ironically) is not open source and will put in many safegaurds to stop people doing naughty things with it but rest assured there will soon be open-sourced verions that will make us never believe anything we will see again.
