Now again, obviously the original is magical enough all on its own. But I have a remix to share with all of you as well! (No, not the Kygo one lol). This one is not as well-known, and it definitely may not be for everybody! 😄 I only say this because reggae is a very "in your face" genre that does not care whether you like it or not!
My mother, for one, loves reggae music 😊 So most of my childhood was spent in awe as I asked her, "Mom, what is that man saying? 😅" Today, I still do not claim to understand even half of the words that are said, but that isn't the point. Reggae is a unique genre in the way that even the voice is utilized to create its own beat.
Here, I will use the remix for an example of the pieces I love. That high note in the line,

The extra syllable added to the word "good" makes the line
🎶 Get a body good-a 🎶
roll right off the tongue, and again that extra rhythm.
🎶 Work it hard, work it hard 🎶
is almost in the tone of an order, but it is in this jumble of throwing things left, right, and center that turns a strange cacophony into something musical.
Of course, Gaye's version needs to be appreciated. There are very few songs that "own" specific musical notes -- once you hear them, the song is immediately there. Y'know how Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline has those unique set of notes that immediately get you singing? Gaye's "baaAAaby!~ does the exact same thing.
