    The Struggle of Ideals

Philosophically & ideologically, I detest statism. I think it’s a cancer that somehow finds its way in our society. Yet unfortunately, I was born in the so-called third world where statism is pretty strong. Love and hate it, I need to find a way to survive even if it’s quite hypocritical of me. This is somehow a great time for me to bring this up again because it’s election season where I am from and I needed to vent about how bad it has been.

Maybe I still have an ounce of care for the country as much as I am pretty much disconnected with my surroundings and politically. It’s a stark contrast given how I was pretty much connected to government related projects and such, only to realize I can’t thrive in a corrupted world where merit can’t find its way. I can’t let myself become the evil to fight the evil except now that I am older, I think that’s the only way to do so especially around here.

    Rethinking Governance

This time around, we’re going to elect a new president. It's a four or five year thing where the contest seems to have made the family into a mini war. I certainly heard a lot more bickering between families who have different opinions. There are three candidates that somehow made huge promises which I am not sure if they could deliver it all. I’ve been pretty much abstaining for a long time. This time, I am going to vote.

I certainly don’t have that much hope if they would deliver their promises but I am choosing a candidate that somehow could increase our passport value. I mean, considering how weak our passport is, we need to step up since I can’t afford to buy Malta or St. Kitts and Nevis passport yet. Other than that, I am pretty much content with the healthcare system and things that have been going on. I don’t believe that a candidate should increase its taxes nor make everything free.

There is one candidate that promises free stuff but given the mentality of people around here, paying would still be a good option. Usually, if it’s free, we are treated as if we’re vermin by government staff who are being paid by our taxes. So, I definitely would rather pay and that’s the only way to get things done around here faster, by money.

    Crypto Dreams and Bureaucratic Nightmares

Another candidate also brought up modern ideas like blockchain and cryptocurrency. While that sounds promising, in the age where there’s a fine line between gambling and crypto, I definitely doubt he would deliver anything promising. Still, maybe a decrease in tax and easy policy to build crypto based projects would be a good idea. Maybe it’s going to be a crypto haven? Just like back in 2016 where Bali was somehow one of the pioneering places for crypto adoption in the country.

At least, this time, I exercise my right to vote and maybe contribute to some destruction and hopeless dream of many just to make others realize that once again, the state failed to take care of them. It’s so interesting how people still want to rely on the government when they are more often than not, unreliable and act like snake oil salesmen.

I will also elect a president who could reform the way government aid is being organized. These days there are too many corruptions and as well quite inefficient. It’s 2024 and they’re still asking us to queue and even more so when it’s elderly in the community.

    Inefficiencies Bureaucrazy

Today, my grandma asked me to collect government aid with her. I am anti-government aid because I know how annoying that can be but I was following along with my grandma. We went to the local govt office by tricycle and once we reached there, the line was already too long. It was filled with elderly who were queuing. They are there for apparently 10kg of rice that’s on the market that would be priced around $7. My grandma is pretty sick and she can’t even stand for too long. I asked her to find a seat and she was sitting next to the government staff who handed out the rice.

Apparently, I met my neighbor who told me to make copies of my grandma IDs and her paperwork. It was not stated on the paper and invitation apparently. So, I went to a nearby photocopier but they rejected me and told me to go somewhere else. What was infuriating me is that there was a photocopier just inside and I could see that. I was still trying to talk to them to get me copies but they said no. I went to my grandma and told her that I needed to photocopy the paper but she was already annoyed.

During that, I heard how an old man was treated badly by the government staff. The staff were shouting as well as having annoyed expressions. I certainly did not like the whole situation and even my grandma was already annoyed. She kept rambling how it was not worth it to queue for low quality rice for $7. I am sure it made everyone feel a little odd because everyone there sort of needs it and my grandma said something like that. Technically, she doesn’t really need it, she’s pretty comfortable but perhaps because she’s elderly and a widow, that’s why she was on the list of government aid.

But me and my grandma were already uncomfortable seeing how other elderly were treated, so we went back home and I booked a grab car for us to go back. On the way home, she kept ranting about it and how it was not worth it, not to mention the long queue that’s not elderly friendly and how inefficient it was. This is why I generally hate anything government related and would have avoided it as much as possible. It’s quite an annoyance to see that and clearly a bad Monday haha.
