    I thought it might be time to sit down and see just how useful this silly little book I wrote actually is. I thought it may be fun to go through and see how many of my own prompts I can answer (or make stuff with) for my own TTRPG world, Trothguard.

    Part of my goal here is to just put my own book into use. I have had a number of people comment on how useful it is to them or how much it gets them thinking of ideas, but I haven't seen anyone sit down and use it yet, which means I don't actually know if the flow of the book is logical or not. It made sense when I wrote it and compiled all my prompts, but does that actually translate into useable sections? Who knows!

    So, I'm going to start with 'Settlements and Buildings' and simply go through the list throughout the next few days.

    Since this is just a fun little experiment, I'm not going to overthink anything. I'll be going down the list, answering each prompt as I get to it. I can't promise I'll do every prompt in my book, but we'll see how far I can get before I get stuck or get distracted with something else.

    1. What horrors need to be kept at bay by the fortifications? What dangers do the average citizens of your world face?

    In Trothguard, the vast majority of fortifications across the continent are designed to keep out simple beasts and the odd wandering pack of hostile creatures like gnolls. There aren't a lot of "purely evil" races in my setting, so they act in much the same way as they did in our own real-life history. They keep the wilds out, they keep enemy forces out, and they are used to extend control over various areas. Most people aren't going to be set upon by marauding bands of monsters, but it does occasionally happen. Just because I don't entertain a lot of default evil races doesn't mean that villages don't get raided by orcs, goblins, and lizardfolk - they do, and walls help with that. There are also all manner of hostile beasts and monsters that are rare but can be problematic, and while some of them can be easily warded off with walls, there's no great way of dealing with a gryphon deciding to steal livestock or a carrion crawler feasting on whatever it can sink it's mandibles into.
