For some of us with vehicles, driving is an everyday adventure because we tend to always use our vehicles to go everywhere, even though the distance to be covered is trekkable. I recently shared here that I have travelled to more states in my country, and that I had even traveled long distances (up to 600+ km) within the country.

This goes to show that I am a traveler and I have got lots of stories and adventure to share with you about my travel experiences. Each mile traveled is a story in itself, filled with the potential for new adventures and memories.

Have you ever traveled to a place you have not been to before? If you have, I believe you were very nervous because this was exactly what happened to me when I traveled from Cross River State to Kaduna (600+ km) for the first time.

The journey lasted for 2 days and I experienced the real definition of "stressing and smiling" because although the journey was very stressful, I saw interesting things that made me forgot my stress. I see traveling as one of the most fun-filled things to do. No wonder they say traveling improves our mental health.

I can't tell for other countries, but traveling long distances by road in Nigeria is majorly stressful because of bad road. Driving in a road that has so many cracks and potholes can be very frustrating. But the good side about these long distance travels is that you get to see more adventures than you watch in action movies.

Like in my journey to Kaduna, where I was able to see the beautiful mountains located at Jos, the coldest city in Nigeria. Since from my childhood days, I have been hearing of Jos and it's beautiful natural heritage and plenty mountains, so it was very satisfying seeing it with my eyes.

We drove and got to Abuja and I finally saw the great Aso Rock that I had only read of in books. The feeling I got from that long car drive of about 600+ km seems like a very big achievement to me because I know how memorable the experience was.

My trip of over 600km ran into midnight, and everybody in the bus fell asleep except for the driver and me. I was busy enjoying the dark and silence night with a little fear of the unknown because what if something comes out of the bush and attack our bus, lol.

Night trips are usually not for the fainty hearted, especially in my country where the security challenges are becoming bigger than the government. Whenever my journey gets into the night, I am no longer comfortable because the unexpected can happen in the dark.

This was how our driver began to doze off while he was still handling the steering. He refused to sleep during the day time because he was rushing to pass an unsecured territory before it gets dark. Even after passing this unsecured territory he continued driving till it was around 1 pm.

Those who were with the driver at the front seat had slept off and I was the only one awake, as I watched the driver struggle with sleep, lol. I advised him to park the vehicle somewhere and sleep for an hour or two but he refused.

Just about 5 minutes after my advise, I observed that the vehicle was going zig-zag, that was when I realized the driver had dozed off. I shout at him and everyone in the bus woke up too. After explaining to them that the driver was sleeping, the whole passengers advised him to park somewhere and sleep for some hours, which he did before we continued.

Traveling is one of the most adventurous activity you can participate in any day, any time, and the longer the trip the more adventurous the experience.
