A jolt ran through the square as the rope tightened.

The feet stopped dancing, and a deathly silence fell over the place.

After a few moments, the hanged man freed himself from his bonds and descended from the scaffold, his mouth dry.

Wasting no time, he made his way to the nearest bar. He had put on a good show and deserved a drink.

Once there, he ordered the best liquor they had. He downed it in one gulp, feeling the fiery liquid burn his throat.

Satisfied, he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and smirked.

No one suspected that the execution had been just a ruse, an ingenious plan to escape justice.

Now, with a new identity, he could make a fresh start somewhere else, far from the clutches of the law.

And as he lost himself in the crowd, he gave thanks to his wit and acting ability.
