Attention! This is a review of the last (at least for now) season. If you don't know this anime, it is an extremely absurd martial arts comedy. A bit like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, but in a different way (I made some simplifications, don't take it too literally). Previous seasons can be watched on Netflix. The manga is still coming out.
We finally got the long-awaited duel between father and son. It was exactly as my friend told me, a bit different than we expected. This is almost the opposite of battle-shounen - the conversation is interrupted by a fight. It is also an opportunity to talk about emotions and difficult issues. I see here references to earlier episodes (I'm not talking about the obvious ones, in the visual sense - I mean references or word games). They are both honest from beginning to end, both about showing their feelings through their movements and about enjoying the moment itself. Initially reluctant, Yujiro quickly understood the true intentions of his unruly son. He actually knew it before the fight, after all, he had prepared the battlefield. He only made sure through it that the decision he made several years ago was right. I'm also not surprised, like my friend Samantha, that some fans and viewers are disappointed. It wasn't quite what I expected, but I'm far from disappointed. Maybe my admiration is a bit exaggerated, but in my opinion it is a perfect way to sum up and solve this difficult relationship. Keisuke Itagaki did it very well. Just as I often complain about the fact that he likes to cut corners, he doesn't make any compromises here. The whole thing is long, full of cool scenes, but the characters talk and look at each other quite often. Usually I complain about too slow pacing, but in this case it didn't bother me at all. My girlfriend, on the other hand, complained and said that "nothing is happening". She was right, but it was supposed to be that way. For me, it was almost perfectly balanced, although I wouldn't complain if it took a little less time.
On the one hand, I understand their disappointment, but on the other, it seems to me a moderately serious objection. The author never took it too seriously. More than once he built a thread for a long time. He prepared the reader for something powerful, created the right atmosphere... While the resolution of this thread was either comedic or happened so quickly that if you focused on something for 1 or 2 minutes, you could miss it. In this case it was completely different. Itagaki devoted appropriate time to each "layer" of their conflict. He showed how much they differ in terms of skills, strength and technique. Yujiro learned something about his son, we saw mutual tenderness and desire for love. There was also frustration, sadness and joy. And this is one of the proofs that Keisuke Itagaki is a talented author. Although his comic can be described as a stupid series where you can turn off your brain and enjoy the absurdity, the rest of the mentioned emotions are strongly felt. I felt that their feelings, despite their frivolous nature, were very true. Initially, I thought that it would only concern the protagonist, but as the duel progresses, we see that the Ogre is no less an emotional being. He also has his own unresolved problems - either with his father or his son. Or he faces a difficulty that no one else has experienced - being the strongest individual on Earth, which absolutely everyone is afraid of. The ending of their relationship is exactly as satisfying as it was once described to me by a friend who has been following this comic book for a very long time. I can't wait to see the protagonist's further journey, as long as Netflix commissions TMS to create further seasons.
The second storyline in this season is devoted to Retsu and his boxing career. As usual, I have to praise the author of the manga for combining absurdity with realism. In the sense that some of the things here are true, but they are presented in a completely extreme (and therefore unrealistic) way. However, I don't have too many things to write here, because although I enjoyed watching it, it can be treated as a semi-filler. This segment led nowhere. Okay, Retsu found the answer he was looking for, achieved his goal, and rediscovered himself while fighting the last boxer (at least to some extent). But what else? Probably nothing. Well, we'll probably find out in the next season, and I think Netflix will probably agree to it. I don't know the statistics, but from what I see from the comments on the Internet and the frequency of releasing subsequent seasons (regular release, unlike e.g. Kengan Ashura), it seems to me that at the end of 2025 or in the first quarter of 2026, we will see a fight against the famous Samurai. He, like Pickle, will also come back to life. By the way, his episode in the Father vs. Son fight was cool too!
To sum up, I recommend this season. Probably the best one so far. I was tempted to watch the entire series from the beginning for the second time. By the way, how could I forget this great line from Yujiro to Barack Obama "You abandoned God and finally started telling the truth." Gold!
Uwaga! To recenzja ostatniego (przynajmniej póki co) sezonu. Jeżeli nie znasz tego anime, to jest to wybitnie absurdalna komedia o sztukach walki. Trochę jak Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, ale w inny sposób (dokonałem pewnego uproszczenia, nie traktujcie tego zbyt dosłownie). Poprzednie sezony można obejrzeć na Netflixie. Manga dalej wychodzi.
W końcu dostaliśmy długo wyczekiwany pojedynek między ojcem, a synem. Było dokładnie taki, jak mi opowiadała koleżanka, czyli nieco inaczej niż mogliśmy się spodziewać. Jest to niemalże przeciwieństwo battle-shounenów - rozmowa jest przerywana walką. Jest to też okazja do powiedzenia o emocjach i pogadania o trudnych sprawach. Widzę tutaj nawiązania do wcześniejszych odcinków (nie mówię o tych jawnych, w sensie wizualnych - mam na myśli nawiązania, czy gierki słowne). Obaj są szczerzy od początku aż do końca, zarówno w kwestii okazywania uczuć ruchami, jak i cieszenia się samą chwilą. Początkowo niechętny Yujiro, dość szybko pojął jakie są prawdziwe intencje jego niesfornego syna. W zasadzie wiedział to już przed walką, w końcu przygotował pole bitwy. Jedynie się upewniał poprzez nią, że decyzja którą podjął kilkanaście lat temu była słuszna. Również się nie dziwię, podobnie jak moja koleżanka Samanta, że część fanów i widzów jest zawiedzona. Nie było to do końca to, czego się spodziewałem, ale daleki jestem od rozczarowania. Może mój zachwyt jest trochę przesadny, ale wg mnie idealnie pasuje na podsumowanie i rozwiązanie tej trudnej relacji. Keisuke Itagaki zrobił to bardzo porządnie. Tak jak często narzekam na to, że lubi iść na skróty, tak tutaj nie idzie na kompromisy. Całość jest długa, pełna fajnych scen, ale postacie dość często gadają i patrzą się na siebie. Zazwyczaj narzekam na zbyt powolny pacing, ale w tym przypadku zupełnie mi to nie przeszkadzało. Moja dziewczyna z kolei marudziła i mówiła, że "nic się nie dzieje'. Miała rację, tyle że tak miało być. Dla mnie był niemal idealnie wyważony, choć nie narzekałbym gdyby potrwało to odrobinę krócej.
Z jednej strony rozumiem ich rozczarowanie, z drugiej wydaje mi się ono średnio poważnym zarzutem. Autor nigdy go nie robił zbyt poważnie. Nie raz budował przez dłuższy czas jakiś wątek. Przygotował czytelnika na coś mocnego, kreował odpowiednią atmosferę... Podczas gdy rozwiązanie tego wątku było albo komediowe albo przeszło tak szybko, że gdyby człowiek zajął się czymś na 1 lub 2 minuty, to mógłby je przeoczyć. W tym przypadku było zupełnie inaczej. Itagaki poświęcił odpowiednio czasu każdej "warstwie" ich konfliktu. Pokazał jak bardzo różnią się w kwestii umiejętności, siły, techniki. Yujiro dowiedział się czegoś o swoim synu, zobaczyliśmy obustronną czułość i pragnienie miłości. Nie zabrakło też frustracji, smutku i radości. I jest to jeden z dowodów na to, że Keisuke Itagaki to utalentowany autor. Choć jego komiks można określić mianem głupiej serii, przy której można wyłączyć mózg i rozkoszować się absurdem, to reszta wspomnianych emocji, jest mocno odczuwalna. Czułem że ich uczucia mimo swojego niepoważnego charakteru, są jak najbardziej prawdziwe. Początkowo myślałem, że będzie to dotyczyło tylko protagonisty, ale wraz z kolejnymi aktami pojedynku, widzimy że Ogr jest nie mniej emocjonalną istotą. On też ma swoje nierozwiązane problemy - czy to z ojcem, czy synem. Albo mierzy się z trudnością, której nie doświadczył nikt poza nim - byciem najsilniejszą jednostką na Ziemi, której boi się absolutnie każdy. Finał ich relacji jest dokładnie tak satysfakcjonujący, jak to mi kiedyś przedstawiła koleżanka, która śledzi ten komiks od bardzo długiego czasu. Nie mogę się doczekać dalszej drogi protagonisty, o ile Netflix zleci TMS-owi tworzenie kolejnych sezonów.
Drugi wątek w tym sezonie, jest poświęcony Retsu i jego karierze bokserskiej. Jak zwykle muszę pochwalić autora mangi, że fajnie łączy absurd z realizmem. W sensie, że część rzeczy jest tutaj prawdziwa, ale została przedstawiona w kompletnie skrajny (a przez to nierealny) sposób. Tutaj jednak nie mam zbyt wielu rzeczy do napisania, bo choć oglądało mi się to całkiem przyjemnie, to można go potraktować jako taki pół-filler. Ten segment nie prowadził do niczego. Ok, Retsu poznał odpowiedź, której szukał, osiągnął swój cel i odkrył siebie na nowo podczas walki z ostatnim bokserem (przynajmniej w pewnym zakresie). Ale co poza tym? Chyba nic. No ewentualnie dowiemy się w kolejnym sezonie, a wydaje mi się, że Netflix raczej się na niego zgodzi. Nie znam statystyk, ale z tego co widzę po komentarzach w internecie i częstotliwości wydawania kolejnych sezonów (regularnego wydawania w przeciwieństwie do np. Kengan Ashura), to wydaje mi się że pod koniec 2025 lub w 1/2 kwartale 2026, zobaczymy walkę przeciwko słynnemu Samurajowi. On podobnie jak Pickle, też wróci do życia. Swoją drogą, jego epizod w walce Ojciec vs Syn też był fajny!
Reasumując, polecam ten sezon. Chyba najlepszy z dotychczasowych. Aż mnie skusiło, by obejrzeć po raz drugi całą serię od początku. Swoją drogą, jak mogłem zapomnieć ten świetny tekst Yujiro do Barracka Obamy "Porzuciłeś Boga i w końcu zacząłeś mówić prawdę." Złoto!
