This is my post for freewriters 2507 prompt nest of monsters hosted by @mariannewest
What do Floridians do when they are under a tropical storm warning? They say, you want to go to the cheap store, it should not be crowded. So here we go, the cheap store is 20 miles from our house. The drive there was a little unsettling, the wind kept blowing the truck and my husband had to keep correcting it, then the rain came down so hard that we could not see the other cars. We came to a traffic light that was no longer working and a wreck at the next light. It happened to be the light we needed to turn onto, they let us turn but we were to make the first right hand turn, the cars going the other direction and more police cars had it blocked, so we had to go another route to get to the store.
Once there, we found out the electricity was out, everyone was standing outside the building under an outside covered area. We decided to wait in the truck. We did not see the point in leaving with the weather as it was because we could do nothing outside at home, so we waited and waited. It took about 1 and 1/2 hours for the power to return.
Everyone was standing outside, talking and being nice to each other, but when they said the power was back on and the front door open, you would have thought you woke a nest of monsters I don't see her in the post but a lady in a yellow top blew by me and about 7 other people and the lady in the blue top and shorts standing by the store door was near the end of the line and she pushed my husband to the side and then pushed her way to the front of the line. I wanted to tell her she was at the cheap store not some fancy shop with 90% off. We waited about 15 minutes for them to open the door, they said they were trying to get their computers back online.
We made it inside after another 20 minutes of waiting, and they had not put the produce out yet. They had this area roped off so they could bring the produce out and set it up. People kept going through their barricade and they kept telling them over the loudspeaker to quit going through it.
There was a break in the rain, so we could get everything out to the truck without getting soaked. We spent a little over 25 dollars.
Rudy made out the most, he has 4 heads of Romaine lettuce and 8 packages of wheatgrass, but I am going to plant most of it, I will give him one tonight, and he has 8 heads of broccoli, all for 2.40.
