Grandparents Day and An Envelope - Day 11 - The 100 Day Project

in voilk •  4 months ago

Today was always going to be a bit of a challenge. Wednesdays I'm out all day, working in my friend's garden cabin, and today I needed to leave early as it's grandparents day, so we were going to the kids' school this afternoon.

I was pretty pleased with myself that I managed to nip up to the attic before I left and decorate an envelope to match my daughter's birthday card. So that was my something creative done, then it was off to the "office".

Grandparents Day at the school was lovely and they were really excited to see us.

We were asked to bring something from our own childhood to share and tell a story about so I took my charm bracelet. I haven't looked at it for years and enjoyed trying to remember the significance of each of the charms.

I was given the bracelet for my 16th birthday and collected charms for a number of years. I didn't actually wear it that much though because it got too heavy and the charms used to stick into my wrist if I put my hand on the table and used to catch in my clothes. Thinking about it, it was totally impractical as a piece of jewelry but it makes a good memory keeper.

There's a church my brother and sister-in-law bought me as a thank you for being their bridesmaid. It opens up and there is a couple inside getting married with a bridesmaid standing behind them so it was very appropriate.

There are a number of charms gifted to me from my parents after various trips to Paris, Edinburgh and Ireland, one of a Greek urn after my first trip to Greece and a beer stein after a trip to Germany. There's a real silver sixpence that came from my grandparents, a crown from the Queen's Silver Jubliee celebrations, a Concorde from when I worked at BAC and numerous others.

The boys really enjoyed looking at them and hearing the stories.

We took them home afterwards with the other set of grandparents and waited for our children to come home from work.

All in all it was a lovely family time and a happy walk down memory lane. Plus, I got some crafting and work done earlier. An all round success of a day I reckon.
