Today I went on a tour to a farm to learn more about gardening and some of the experience was worth it, having tried to grow a garden of my own in this summer alot of these went wrong and I couldn't manage to keep the veggies alive.

I was surprised to see this garden flourishing well in the summer and the farmer is able to provide vegetables and fruits for his family and people around this neighborhood.

If we want to keep a garden it will be a good idea to learn from farmers that have been in the system for years. The farmer came very early this morning to carry out his routine task in the garden and while he was working I had approach him, started a little discussion and learnt about his gardening experience
Some of the vital things he has put in place here to keep a green garden in the midst of a hot summer can be seen here.

    • A deep well to as a source of constant water supply year round.
Having this single well for the purpose of the garden was a good idea. The water used in his home is separated from the water meant for gardening purpose.
This was there is enough water for irrigation which he does manually with buckets to draw water from the well.
A modern version to this is having a pumping machine and pipeline that can run round the garden, this farmer is too poor to do yet hence he is left with the manual labour of wetting this large space

    • Security and wood fencing to keep away domestic animals.

You won't be having this garden if there was no form of security first from domestic animals.
Different kind of fencing can be done in a garden, even though the farmer has done the cheapest one here using logs of wood from the farm. Even though the wood was gotten for free, the labourers took some $15 to help him secure the garden.

Another thing is a form of protection security from human who would want to steal the veggies in which the farmer does so by himself.

    • Soil fertility check.
      This is one vital aspects.
The nature of soil often times determine is our veggies will survive in the summer or not.
Loamy-clay is the soil type in this garden and the farmer adds to the soil fertility using cow dungs as we have a route where cows pass by here

The varieties of veggies in the garden was another aspect that caught my attention of which I'm looking at the arrangements and how this combination works.

Thanks for stopping by , hope you learnt a thing or two.
