HighBridge Road in North Peninsula Park Florida

Well winter here in Florida is still a balmy 75 degrees (23C) yesterday. So, no snow but we have sand and I'm loving it.

For this post, I went out to the State Park that is between us and the beach. It's a very large State Park, and several of these Parks are joined together, making them even larger in combination. There's not much other use for the land, it floods often, nearly every big rain and high tide, the roads will flood over. This leaves a large marshy area for the birds, fish in the canals, and all kinds of other wildlife.

One of the highlights is the Drawbridge on HighBridge road. The smaller boats are able to drive under it, but for the larger boats, the drawbridge raises. The boat just honks their horn or calls over the radio, and the bridgemaster opens the drawbridge. I was lucky enough to catch it opening for one of the boats in the video.

What's really interesting about this spot is the Halifax river shown with the bridge over it is actually a salt water river, getting most of it's water from the ocean tides in addition to the freshwater runoff. This means there are all kinds of saltwater fish in the river and canals, including dolphins, sharks, and wide variety of others.

I also flew over to the beach and grabbed a few shots.

This is the little beach access at North Peninsula Park (Ormond Beach) it's about 10 minutes from our house (safely inland).

This shot is looking North, you can barely make out the buildings at Flagler Beach way at the top if you zoom in.

This shot looking South you see, well nothing :) That's why we like it! Actually if you zoom in and look really, really close at the top you can barely see the beginnings of the North Daytona Suburbs.

And then this one from the same spot just showing off the Drone Zoom lens capability.

I really liked the design of these canals and waterways. Looks like great fishing spots!

Here's one a little lower eye level from the roadside.

And then of course, we need a few cloud pics.

Was a great day to be out and certainly a welcome change from the show shoveling and wood cutting/carrying I was doing last year at this time. So far we are loving the new place. I think the favorite place I've ever lived. Really kinda wishing I had actioned moving here 40 years ago when first considered it. But at least we're here now and going to make the most of it!
