Jack pressed hard on the brakes, but it was too late, he felt his car knock something over,hard. Thud! He had been distracted over the argument with his wife before he left home and didn't realize he had gone through the amber lights and it had changed to red.
He was a very careful man and would have normally waited for it to turn green before driving through, only he wasn't focused.
Muttering a quick desperate prayer, he steps out of the car quickly to assess the damage. Thankfully, it was nothing, he had hit a big stone in the middle of the road and that was the thud he heard.
He leaned against the body of the car and heaved several sighs of relief. Thank God for small mercies, he would have his mechanic run a check on the car later.
He got back in and drove on, this time fully concentrated on the road ahead of him.
