Good evening everyone and thankyou for stopping by.
This Week's Activities
This week we have been looking for some fun plans for our Christmas decoration haul that the kids want to start. There's been well into 10+ man hours of researching and they still can't decide what to start first. They have all the ideas but getting them to decide is near impossible so I think it's time I start making some decisions!
We have sanded more boards down which is taking an age and killing our backs and shoulders which is getting a bit tedious. Currently I am looking to find some way to do it easier and faster.
The doors the kids created last week are installed and holding up well against the wrath of my 2 year old son!
He is hellbent on getting back into the cupboard, but so far the doors have remained stead fast and sturdy and haven't budged. He's a hefty kid too, so I am so proud of the kids for making some great doors.
Here's the link to that post if you missed it Sturdy Doors
Other Bits
We do currently have a bit of a setback due to the electrics keep tripping in the workshop. As of now there is no real exact reason as they seem to trip when we are using the tools but also randomly with no load except a freezer that was on the other side of the workshop. Sadly I hadn't noticed that the electrics had tripped and I have lost a few hundred pounds worth of food which I'm not best please about, but hey least it didn't catch fire like last time
Along with the recent cold weather, we actually managed to have the workshop a crisp -3 Degrees Celsius which is utter madness. I had never considered these temperature's and none of us have thermals and I cannot provide the kids with any new equipment until I raise a bit more money as they are quite expensive for the good stuff.
So we are back to using a small heater to try and keep us and the workshop a bit warmer. All the while due to the tripping electric's we have had to resort to hand saws for chopping up the wood ready for our future Christmas Decoration's. This has meant that it is really slow going as it's mainly just me who can saw well and in a straight line for a long period of time. The kids unfortunately cannot so my wood prep speed has vastly dropped.
Along with our frozen PVA wood glue (Who knew it would freeze!?!) which has left the workshop in anger via the door! We are back to waiting on more glue to arrive now, but it will be here for the next session in the week.
Future Plans
For now I have put on hold buying new equipment for the workshop. This does not include a reasonably priced Fire Extinguisher which I still need to buy, I just haven't got quite enough money yet for that. But it will be coming hopefully soon.
I am going to concentrate on getting the electric's sorted and safe for the kids as that is my priority at the moment. I want them to be warm, well fed and being able to use all the cool things that I get them, which currently I am only hitting the keep them a bit warm part.
I also am looking at ways to insulate the workshop on a tight budget to try and keep some of the heat in if possible. This will be great as it isn't even really winter yet in the UK and it's already mighty cold!
All of this costs money but eventually I hope that I can pull it off as I am willing to do whatever DIY that I can to make it better for them and to also keep the costs down to a minimum spend.
Other News
No new sponsors to announce this week. I have approached a couple more projects on HIVE for support, 1 is having a think and is going to get back to me. The other that replied at first has gone completely silent on me so I assume that means they aren't interested. Which is all fair, I just wish they had sent me a rejection so I could move on to another project that I have my eyes on.
I am trying to work with projects and groups that I feel could really bring some amazing support to the Hive-Woodpeckers, but also we could then bring some good support to them as well in a mutual benefit setup.
This next part is quite exciting for HIVE as I have officially managed to onboard 3 new members to HIVE solely through the Hive-Woodpeckers and what we are doing in advertising HIVE on our side.
The first was our eldest member. He has been a member of HIVE for a couple of months now and is absolutely destroying it!
I funded his account with $30 odd dollars worth of HIVE and gave him a run down on how things work. He was brand new to Crypto and I'm so proud how well he is doing. He has since turned that $30+ into well over $100+ with some smart trading and doing wonders with the community through blogging etc.
It took a while to convince his parents that HIVE was the right place for him but they eventually relented and allowed him to join which was great!
He has managed to fund his school trip solely from the money he has made on HIVE which is amazing as this is his first trip he has ever been on with his school. He's made more money in the Crypto space than I have this year, and he's only been on a couple of months. I'm hoping he's gonna start teaching me soon!
The other 2 members are a parent of one of the kids in the group and one of the group leaders have joined to support us and support any members of the community that join HIVE. This is a great start for us and they even have bought over $100 of HIVE to get started. This is great for HIVE as I now have fulfilled a promise that I made to try and onboard members of our Charity group onto HIVE so I am hoping the @duo-curator team are happy so far with our work.
Just to add the cherry on top is that this has been achieved with a zero spend on advertising. This is solely through word of mouth and me spending my time interacting in my community and Charity group.
Hopefully by the New Year I'll have a few more I can shout about!
