Director Chris Evans has created a tender ode to lost souls finding solace in each other during one magical night.

Evans also proves a capable lead alongside Alice Eve, sharing a tangible chemistry as strangers crossing New York and baring their souls.

Their heartfelt romance blossoms naturally against the nighttime backdrop of the city, from late-night dinners to reflections on the subway. Nick Hornby's screenplay is commendable.

Although this is an independent film with a modest budget, seasoned veterans like cinematographer Eduard Grau have imbued it with a visual poetry that enhances the intimate journey.

Evans masterfully directs the bittersweet atmosphere without melodrama, respecting the simplicity and transience of human connection. He directed with his heart on his sleeve.

A subtle display of how captivating real emotions can be without the need for grand spectacle. Before We Go will linger in your memory long after the credits roll.

Evans' directorial debut proves he has talent behind the camera as well. An extremely honest romance to get lost in.

Unfortunately, this gem of a film received no major award nominations or accolades during its 2014 release. It did, however, garner recognition on the film festival circuit with wins at the Hamptons Int'l Film Festival for Best Screenplay and the Boston Film Festival for Best Narrative Feature.

Financially it performed commendably, grossing over $2 million worldwide against its budget of less than $1 million.
