Since I was a kid they teach us in school about the four seasons, the different stages of the earth as it revolves around the sun. They tell us about the characteristics of each one of them, but my only real reference about them were movies and some pictures in books and magazines, since my childhood was in the 90's and I live in a country where you don't really feel the seasons and where having the privilege of internet was something for the millennium that was about to begin; at least for middle class families like mine.
Desde niño nos enseñan en la escuela sobre las cuatro estaciones, las diferentes etapas de la tierra mientras gira al rededor del sol. Nos hablan sobre las características de cada una de ellas, pero mi única referencia real sobre las mismas eran las películas y algunas fotos en libros y revistas, ya que mi infancia fue en los 90's y vivo en un país donde realmente no se sienten las estaciones y donde tener el privilegio de internet era algo para el milenio que estaba por comenzar; al menos para familias de clase media como la mía.
It is nice to see the summer movies, the beautiful landscapes that autumn achieves, to see so much publicity of Santa Claus in December next to the winter snow and the impressive flowers and vegetation when it is reborn in spring, but my reality was two seasons that do not even appear in the books, rains and drought, it is an absolute reality near the equator. You could say that at any time of the year we have the privilege of going to a beach with room temperature, the vegetation changes leaves depending on the species and the rains really surprise us at any time, but this year I traveled to Europe for the first time, and I met the real spring.
Es bonito ver las películas de verano, los hermosos paisajes que logra el otoñó, ver tanta publicidad de Santa Claus en diciembre junto a la nieve del invierno y lo impresionante de las flores y la vegetación cuando vuelve a renacer en primavera, pero mi realidad era dos estaciones que ni siquiera salen en los libros, lluvias y sequía, es una realidad absoluta cerca del ecuador. Se podría decir que en cualquier época del año tenemos el privilegio de ir a una playa con temperatura ambiente, la vegetación cambia de hojas dependiendo de la especie y las lluvias nos sorprende realmente en cualquier momento, pero este año viajé a Europa por primera vez, y conocí la verdadera primavera.
These pictures are from Granada in Spain, while I was on my way with my colleagues to La Alhambra. Since I got off the plane I was surprised by the weather, it was very dry, it felt like the air conditioning of the buildings where I work in Venezuela, but there was also a special smell, the excess of pollen was something new to me, in fact I could see it flying in front of my eyes. It was only the second week of spring, so I could see many flowers, but also bushes that were not yet recovered from the winter. What for others is normal, for me was magic and a privilege.
Estas fotografías son de Granada en España, mientras me dirigía con mis colegas a La Alhambra. Desde que bajé del avión me sorprendió el clima, era muy seco, se sentía como el aire acondicionado de los edificios donde trabajo en Venezuela, pero también había un olor especial, el exceso de polen era algo nuevo para mí, de hecho lo veía volar frente a mis ojos. Solo era la segunda semana de la primavera, así que pude ver muchas flores, pero también arbustos que aún no se recuperaban del invierno. Lo que para otros es normal, para mí era magia y un privilegio.
I'm not the best photographer, and I captured these images with my cell phone, but I did it with all the care to keep so many colors and memories beyond my mind. This day I really stayed behind the group admiring my surroundings, I think even my wife had to go ahead of me with her best friend, I was just watching to enjoy every moment. It was a special and so far unique experience, but I am certain to continue to know the world through travel, now that I have started it has become a new passion for me.
No soy el mejor fotógrafo, y estas imágenes las capturé con mi móvil, pero lo hice con todo el cuidado de guardar tantos colores y recuerdos más allá de mi mente. Este día realmente me quedaba detrás del grupo admirando mi al rededor, creo que hasta mi esposa tuvo que adelantarse con su mejor amiga, yo estaba pendiente de disfrutar de cada momento. Fue una experiencia especial y hasta ahora única, pero tengo la certeza de seguir conociendo el mundo a través de viajes, ahora que he comenzado se ha convertido en una nueva pasión para mí.
I don't know how people born in very northern or very southern countries will feel it. I imagine that just as each season has its magic it must also have its complexity, in fact the pollen did affect me a little, but nothing that a medicine could not solve soon. In my work it is more normal that master musicians from all over the world come to share with us than that we are the singers who travel to their countries. They always speak wonderfully of Venezuela's tropical climate, so it's just a matter of perspective.
No sé cómo lo sentirán las personas que nacen en países muy al norte o muy al sur. Imagino que así como cada estación tiene su magia también debe tener su complejidad, de hecho sí me afectó un poco el polen, pero nada que un medicamento no pudiera resolver pronto. En mi trabajo es más normal que Maestros músicos de todas partes del mundo vengan a compartir con nosotros a que seamos los cantantes los que viajemos hasta sus naciones. Ellos siempre hablan maravillosas del clima tropical de Venezuela, así que solo es algo de perspectiva.
I hope life will grant me to know the other seasons that I have admired so much from a distance; I think the closest to home is summer, but I want so much to see autumn and photograph it, and my biggest dream, to know snow in the winter. I'm glad I started with spring, it's beautiful and feels so good. Granada is a beautiful city and gifted us with the best it had to offer just in our short three day visit. Yes, I have to go back, and even go for more...
Espero la vida me conceda conocer las otras estaciones que tanto he admirado a distancia; creo que la más parecida a mi hogar es el verano, pero deseo tanto ver el otoño y fotografiarlo, y mi sueño más grande, conocer la nieve en el invierno.
