Beat the Heat with Refreshing Doodh Soda

in voilk •  last month

Usually, on weekends, I meet up with friends on Saturday nights, and we sit together at any random Dhaba (local tea stall) for hours, sometimes playing cards or dominoes, and sometimes Snooker. But nowadays, as the temperature is soaring, it’s very difficult to stay outside even at night. The sweat, the itchiness, and the overall discomfort are unbearable. The thermometer shows around 40 degrees Celsius, but it feels like +50 degrees. It feels like we’re being roasted in an oven or microwave. This extreme heat seems to be increasing year by year, possibly due to global warming or some other atmospheric changes. Whatever the cause, it’s getting worse.

Last weekend, my friends asked me to join them at Jauhar area, which is 10-12 km away from my home. I had to take a ride to get there. I was completely exhausted and not in the mood to go out, so I made a lame excuse to stay home. But then, they called and said they were coming to my place to pick me up. With no excuse left, I had to join them.

Unfortunately, one of them got a flat tire on his bike. I accompanied him to the puncture shop to get it fixed. The weather was so uncomfortable that even a little walk made us sweat heavily. After the tire was fixed, I suggested we get something refreshing instead of sitting in a humid, muggy environment with tea. Initially, they disagreed, but after some insistence, we all decided to have Doodh Soda from one of the famous nearby shops.

Our city has been experiencing heat waves recently, and in this kind of weather, it’s recommended to drink as much water and other refreshing drinks as possible to stay cool and calm. Doodh Soda is one such drink that provides a deep, long-lasting cool feeling. Meo Rajput Milk Shop is a well-known place for these kinds of drinks. They offer a variety of flavored drinks, with their Lassi and Doodh Soda being particularly popular. One of us wasn’t a fan of Doodh Soda, so he ordered Faluda, while the rest of us ordered a liter of Doodh Soda.

    What is Doodh Soda?
Doodh means Milk, and Soda is self-explanatory. It’s a combination of milk and soda water. Mostly, Pakola, a Pakistani soft drink, is used as the soda water in making Doodh Soda. It’s well-mixed and creates a refreshing taste.

Another unique aspect is the use of steel glasses and jugs. I really like these steel mugs and jugs; they also add to the cool feeling. It was a great decision because we all enjoyed our drinks. The only downside was that we had a lot of Doodh Soda – three people consumed 1 liter. While it gave us a refreshing feeling, it also made us sleepy. We felt so relaxed that our eyes started to close, and we needed sleep urgently. This forced us to disburse the gathering, and we all headed home within half an hour. I wasn’t that sleepy, but I went with the flow. After that Doodh Soda, I had a good sleep and missed making a post that day – the after-effects of Doodh Soda, hahahaha. All of these pictures were taken by my friend; well, I can say that I forced him to take these pictures for my post.
