Growing a mentality

I wanted to title this article 'Christmas rollercoaster', I guess I will have to merge both as long as the needed idea is established. The Christmas season is always the spending season, at least for most. Come to think of it, if everyone is spending then who is always earning? The fact is, those in business are the ones who always get the money out from the pockets of those doing that 8am- 5pm job. In general, government and private workers always spend to enjoy their resting season. The spending is always high. The prices of things have changed already.

Our current economy is making the matter even more complicated, it is like highing what is already high. The emotion buying season is here, prices of foodstuffs have taken a leap so what will other sectors be waiting for?. Coming back to me and business, I have to also adjust, the cost of materials too have jumped so it's not about only making the most of the season but also balancing expenses.

There are many demands this season from our customers and I am putting all effort into attaining quality service and delivery. Speaking of such, working with my contract workers is very necessary at this moment. They too are being sensitive.

What am I saying here? Their price per delivery has changed. I have to also understand with them that there is supposed to be a change in pricing. Being an entrepreneur means balancing many odds to stay in business. What do I again mean here? I have a high cost of materials plus an increase in payment per delivery for contract workers. Solving this and staying in profit is very mandatory. I had a conversation with two of my contract workers today and both stepped up the pricing.

Their feedback was that I should do the same to balance the odds, everyone knows it is Christmas. I tried my best to readjust their demands in a friendly way although I personally felt they should consider who I am to them. Of course the Christmas season will come to a close and business must continue, how they treat me may cause for new client sourcing.

I thought of all this and also told them too, they told me to also consider their views. It is my duty to make those working with me feel happy. Personally, they feel or assume I have stepped up the price. I never really considered this rally, this is my first year of focusing on contract workers and I have learnt in the process. You know a staff's salary would still remain the same even on Christmas. Or maybe there is always something called 'Christmas bonus'. I learnt from the process, new coming work will have to meet Christmas season demands. Not that the price will be that high, at least everyone has to go home happy as usual.

There has been some level of loss to me from my workers side. I felt bad but had to readjust my mentality. Making people work with you in times like this is not easy. Even when I called them, the feedback was that there is an overload of personal work already to push out. The price was that enticing factor and I had to consider that. Making people put heads with you to solve a problem can be challenging, nevertheless, you need people. No one man ascertains success, this is where many fail to understand. Growing stronger and stronger in business, entrepreneurship and deal striking is something I have to continually improve upon. Any man that can make people work for or with him is already successful.

I am still part of the work force and it is choking me too. Declining a customer at this time can be a very wrong move, one that can affect next year's result. Instead of that, pushing more work to my workers and increasing pay even if I am getting a small interest is to be considered. As I said, I am also working, meaning I will cover it with those I can personally deliver. Customers don't care how you manage to do it, their concern is quality service or product and on time. Personally, even if I were to step into your business premises and you had to take the service abroad to complete it, that is absolutely none of my business. Give me the time and date I should show up, deliver my on that date and you appear a businessman to me.

To conclude, let me add, I am trying to soak the ground ahead of next year. Having foresight is what keeps you long enough in business. Growing a mentality of staying in business must be prioritized. From internal concerns like price bargains with workers, daily expenses to external ones like customer satisfaction and better pricing, you can't stay dull to accomplish this. The year is rounding up with new knowledge and experiences to add to my list. I feel there is a need to take advantage of this moment and as usual making sure every aspect that makes up my daily businessing is efficient and beneficial to all parties involved.
