Teaching my sister how to cycle, one of the hardest tasks so far.
For some time now, my sister has been on my neck to help train her how to ride a bicycle and I have been avoiding her because I know how difficult and tasking it's going to be. So today being a holiday in my country, I was home in the morning and I did not have a plan of going anywhere so she pestered me to help her so she could ride a bicycle.
When she started beckoning me to teach her, I told her that I was not trained by anyone so if she's truly interested in knowing how to cycle, she should learn it herself. However, on second thought I reasoned how dangerous it might be for her to learn how to ride by herself. I thought of her being involved in an accident and the danger of losing my bicycle too. Above all, she might get herself injured or above all lose her life in the process.
After giving a thought to all these, I decided to take her on the process. We used our local street at first where there were no cars and other vehicles. However, I was impressed by her boldness and confidence to ride even when others were afraid to give it a try. I must say that her first attempt was a huge success because of how quick she was to grasp all that I told her.
It was a very stressful situation for me because I had to hold the bicycle for her to climb and also hold the bicycle for her to cycle. Besides this, I have to push the bicycle to enable her to pedal. Above all, my happiness was that she was able to ride on her own though for a short distance.
Cycling in my country is generally a men's thing, though few women cycle but the men are often seen with their bicycles. Few women who ride do that occasionally and they often do so for the fun of it. In some villages women ride bicycles to the market and to the farm, but in the city, very few women ride to work and schools.
Whatever the reason must have pushed my sister to want to learn how to cycle, I believe that it's for a good course and it will be beneficial to her and others.
