Nyx isn't a known figure in many mythical tales but that doesn't mean she didn't exist. She's the unique, beautiful goddess of the night, and daughter of Chaos who lived in Tartarus, a place of torment, suffering, and darkness. According to some sources, she was very feared by Zeus because she was older and stronger than him. With the ability of bringing sleep or death to the human race, she's not a goddess to be messed with.
Nyx is married to Erebus(God of darkness) and they birthed Hemera(Goddess of day) and Aether(God of Light). She isn't seen as an evil figure in Greek mythology but because of her dark and mysterious nature, many see her as a villain. (lol I would do the same too seeing that evil is mostly associated with the night.). Basically, She is a neutral goddess who minds her business and does her duties. Just don't try to harm her children, dont cross her and you'd be fine.
I knew Nyx would be my entry for this contest the moment I saw the theme.
I remember the first time I heard the name "Nyx", I loved it immediately so I decided to check the meaning and honestly, that wasn't what I expected😕 It's still a beautiful name regardless, one of my faves🤷
I decided to step out of my comfort zone this time to create something different, and I'm glad I did. I had this idea of a woman sitting on a chopped tree trunk staring into the night with the moon behind her. I envisioned birds, some flowers just a dark background and nothing more. I was confused with the colour choice though but when in doubt, blue is my go-to and I'm really glad I did.
The sketch was quite messy, I didn't spend so much time on it before going straight to adding flat colours on everything.
The rendering phase was a lot, the dress, skin, hair, tree trunk and flowers. I finished the first part of her dress but it looked so plain so I added more transparent layers to the lower part and adorned the uper part with little gems.
I added a moon behind her,some birds and little stars around her. I added some lighting to some areas and made little adjustments where necessary.
Overall, I'm really satisfied with this painting and I hope to explore more paintings like like. That's all for now, thanks for visiting my blog...
