Nothing brings dread into me like getting caught in a forest in the dark. Even with well marked trails, it is easy to get turned around and disoriented like it happened one time in these same woods. During that hike, I decided to utilize my manly navigation sense instead of my phone. It was getting dark, and I was expecting to come out onto a beautiful green park full of happy people, but instead found myself staring at a cliff over the ocean with no happy people in sight. Huh? Freaked me right out, then I had to basically run in the dark with only my phone illuminating the way like a Blair Witch Project situation. My heart races just thinking about it.
These days, the sun is now setting at quarter past the hour, so it gets dark quickly. There is a big psychological difference when you're out in the open, the sun hits the top of the trees, and nature explodes in all its majesty. It's another to be speed-walking to reach your goal before it gets dark. Did I mention that there are angry coyotes around here?
Cue in the X-files music. What could this sphere be? A crashed alien UAP or time-traveling machine? The artifacts of a sacrificial cult? Or performance art by bored university engineering students with a cheeky sense of humour?
I did not stick around to find out, lest I unleash some horror of eldritch proportions.
