How can onboarding be made easier?

The past five days has been super stressful for me. Other than my usual 8 to 5 job, a truckload of things that I had to attend to and life in general, I also had to onboard three of my friends.

Whoever thought onboarding people on Hive could be this stressful? For the first time in the history of my onboarding people I had to onboard three people simultaneously so let’s say this was a new challenge for me but I am glad that I could overcome it and I pray they stick around long enough to not just explore Hive but to see how beautiful the ecosystem is.

Hive has been such a blessing to me ever since I created an account and this year I decided to not just tell people about Hive as I usually do but to onboard more people. I have decided to share this wonderful platform with others and watch them explore and get hooked on the blockchain like me.

Creating an account for a new user has always been a big problem for me but the Vibes Web Music Competition changed that.

If you haven’t heard about the biggest web3 music competition going on Hive then you should probably check this out and if you are a singer then this is an opportunity for you to showcase your talent and meet other singers too.

This competition has been able to onboard a lot of new users as a free Hive account is created for anyone outside of Hive who wishes to join the competition. I made use of this opportunity by inviting my friends to join the competition as three of them are great singers. Kudos to the organizers of the competition as the competition has been going smoothly so far. It’s been barely 23 days since the competition started and we’ve had so many entries and that’s incredible!

Having a free account was one thing but teaching them how to navigate the Hive ecosystem was a different ball game, at some point, they almost gave up but I didn’t let them as we had come too far to give up.

Teaching a new user how to navigate Hive is like teaching a child how to learn the alphabets. Like I always tell people you can’t expect that child to magically start stringing words together or reading just immediately as it takes patience and more patience to watch that child go through the normal process and this also applies to newbies too.

How do you introduce a wallet and tokens to a new user who all his or her lives have been used to traditional web2 where there is nothing like a wallet or token? He or she just login and laugh their asses out or the only wallet they know is the one they use for keeping their money.

A lot of factors come into play when onboarding people to Hive and as an onboarder if you fail to understand these factors then you might get frustrated in the process.

It was one hell of a ride and this just made me appreciate and respect Hiveans who onboard so many users and are also able to monitor their progress. I can’t help but ask, how do you guys do it effortlessly? My first attempt at doing this onboarding marathon was no walk in the park.

Can you relate? Do you have some useful tips that could make my onboarding experience less stressful? Please kindly share some of them in the comment section as I’d love to read some of these onboarding tips by y’all in the comment section.
