LUT Garden Report #4

Officially spring is here and it's time to start growing again. I need to get my skates on otherwise I'm going to miss the season this year.

    Garlic

I'm very happy with how my garlic are coming along. I planted 12 and only 1 has died, I consider that a success for a first timer. Hopefully the bulbs of the other 11 are growing nice and healthy under the soil.

There's not much more I can do other than wait patiently, and take some nice macro photos of rain droplets.

    Wolfberry

My Wolfberry plants are also growing nice and healthy. They're very handy and I left them growing in the polystyrene boxes over winter. Most of them are starting to look like proper mini shrubs now. I'll be replanting them next month as they are perennial plants and need a proper permanent home to grow in the long run.

    Lemon Verbena

The lemon verbena is my favourite plant. Over the winter it lost all its leaves and I thought it had died. Then suddenly one day I noticed some shoots had grown. Yeah! Spring is back and my lemon verbena is still alive! The stems
were very long and I didn't want my plant to grow too tall so I cut a few twigs and grew them in water indoors.

The new shots are very tiny but very leafy compared to what's remaining outdoors. Plus aesthetically, I think they look beautiful. I've planted one stem in soil, I want to see the difference in growth speed. And I will plant the other one in soil later on in case the stem rots in water. Till then, they make a great display at home.

    Aloe Vera

In February I repotted my aloe Vera plant. There was a small flower bud that was shorter than all the aloe Vera leaves. Since then it has continued to grow and now it is taller than the rest of the plant. I don't know what it plans to do with itself. It hasn't turned red nor has it flowered. It's playing surprise surprise with me. Ok, I shall wait and see.

The rest of the aloe vera baby plants I repotted from the main plant are still here. Some have died, I think I may have over watered them 😅

    Bok choi

And finally my favourite veggie, bok choi. These seedlings are a little over a month old. When I see other people's seedlings they're always very neat and tidy and spaced out nicely. I sprinkled mine in the pot and they've ended up all clustered together. Hopefully they will survive there for a few more weeks before they're ready to be replanted. I hope I will get a nice harvest this year.

    Getting my garden in order

Later on this month I'm going to get some raised beds in my garden to grow things properly. There will be an L shaped planter in this corner and a little path in front. I can't wait for that to be completed and plant my bok choi and Wolfberry plants, and loads of other stuff there. I have this vision of a bumper harvest this year. Mother nature please help me!

Till then, see you in my next LUT Garden Report.
