A Late Post and the Value of Having Something Prepared!

Oh man, look at the time! For those of you who are waking up around now, perhaps nothing seems amiss, but for me it is nearing evening and my post isn't out yet. It's been a busy day. I'm late!

Normally I wake up, maybe or maybe not do some writing on something (usually some kind of post, but no necessarily the one that will go up on that day), the kids will wake up and I'll do morning things, then after they leave for school (or friends or whatever) I'll browse through my finished folder, where all drafts are moved after I think they are good enough, pick out something and post it.

But today... I have been pulled this way and that from morning, with things happening, calls coming in, all kinds of stuff popping up. Man...

This is one reason why I post early in my day, by the way, which luckily for me is near 00:00 UTC time, so that if I do happen to miss the post, well, I have all day to get it done, and in the worst case I'd be able to stay up late to get it done. I know I know, it's only a post, who cares if you miss a day. Well, I have a daily streak of a few years so although it wouldn't be the end of the world if it came to an end, I would rather avoid that if possible.

Anyway. It's been a busy past few months. Today was just more hectic, but this has been building for a while. Doesn't rain but it pours, eh?

In addition to having my normal posting time being in the morning so that I have time to catch up if I miss it, times like this are also why I work ahead a week or two. That is to say, I have about a week or two of finished posts available to use and when I sit down to write I am working on future posts, not current ones to go out today.

When I was a kid I enjoyed comic books and I remember reading interviews with the writers, many of whom would always say things like "I work several issues ahead". As a kid I always thought that was a little strange. Why write so far ahead, I thought. But now here on Hive I do the same thing. In addition to giving me a buffer to prevent days with no posts, it also allows me to better schedule things as well as coordinate with posts on my web page.

As I flip through my finished folder tonight, I do see several three tunes tuesday posts in here. I could run with one of those. But at the same time, I like to at least reread my posts before putting them up, and I'm just not feeling it right now to go through any of these. So instead I'll go with this, making today an exception where I am actually writing today's post today!

On a slightly different note, this evening after dinner I watched the new Super Mario movie with my two kids.

They have been begging to see it since it was released, but I didn't get around to getting it for them until now. At the store this past weekend the regular DVD was on sale so we picked it up. It was fun. I'll write my thoughts up in a CINE post later, but for now, I enjoyed it. It was very much the Mario movie I was hoping for when I was a kid (instead, I was given the weird Bob Hoskins live-action Mario movie, where all the Mario world creatures evolved from dinosaurs and were ruled over by Dennis Hopper... it was a bizarre movie). My kids enjoyed it so much they immediately asked to watch it again. My oldest is still humming some of the music as he lays in bed in his room. Anyway, look for a full post with my thoughts sometime soon!
