    Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to flip some older pictures into black and white, is it any surprise that I chose some flowing water?! :D

    Flowing Monochrome Monday

Flowing water has to be one of my favorite mediums to work with for photography. It has so many dramatic elements to it! It looks incredible in my opinion, and it makes for some interesting looks back on where I was and what I was doing.

We haven't been getting out that much on adventures lately, due to me working a lot and the little man being busy himself so I haven't been able to get that many pictures of trees and stuff outside. It's a shame, really but we deal with what we've got. In the meantime, I've got pleeeeenty of pictures stored in the old archives that can be resurfaced and flipped to some interesting stuff!

This particular river was in the mountains, which isn't much of a surprise considering where we spend a lot of our time, relatively speaking. We've been lucky to find some really cool spots, and this one is one of my personal favorites.

The spot is pretty unique in that it has incredibly smooth rocks where the water is flowing right over it. That makes it generate some incredible looking photos! Obviously the water has been flowing here for a really long time, to make such smooth features on the rocks so it's a wonder as to how long it's actually been flowing. With the area though, the water level comes and goes but it definitely does it's job at carving out some spots, and new spots, for it to be flowing! There are all kinds of nooks and crannies where the water pops out, it's pretty cool. Some of them are pretty compressed as well, kind of like a canyon as this one below. The rock did eventually give into the persistence of the water, and it made the formation we see!

I love getting up close and personal with the things that I am taking pictures of, and the lens that I bought my wife a year ago for Christmas has really been allowing us to take full advantage of stuff like that. Getting a nice solid zoom in is great! We are able to really get a nice snap in with this type of stuff and while the picture does look cool in color, I think they definitely look a lot more intriguing and interesting as black and white.

The interesting thing about it as well with this particular black and white filter, is that it's got a few phases to it. I kick it up a notch with this other phase and it really deepens the dark colors in some areas. I would be interested to figure out the formula and stuff that allows it to do that, but I simply don't have the time to figure it all out lol. In the meantime, I'll take advantage of these cool open source tools :D
