First off, I want to let you know that I'm preparing a beautiful post about the most beautiful village in Italy for 2024. This title has just been awarded to a beautiful village in Tuscany, and I couldn't be happier about this award. However, I don't want to reveal too much just yet; I'll talk more about it in the coming days, although I'm sure some of you may have already guessed.

Today, I wanted to focus on what I saw yesterday, fortunately, the sun has returned, and so has my desire to explore new places. While in the Casentino area of Tuscany, on the road between Subbiano and Poppi, towns I've already talked about here in the community, I was able to stop for a few minutes in Castel Focognano. This may not mean much to some, but in reality, this place is rich in history and art, even though I only took a quick stroll through the streets of this small village.

Probably, many years ago, a beautiful castle stood in this place, but over time, like many similar places, it developed into more of a medieval village. However, the interesting point, in my opinion, is the parish church, which they say is one of the largest in central Italy. I must say, it impressed me as well, and I've seen quite a few similar parish churches. For those who may not know what I'm talking about, a parish church was usually a Romanesque-style church built somewhat outside the inhabited center, likely serving as a place for meditation and spirituality. Many of these places were perhaps founded by future saints or by friars who, like pilgrims, traveled around Italy.

You may have noticed I haven't even shared an interior photo of the parish church because as soon as I entered, I found a sign saying that photography was prohibited. I never agree with these signs because I believe it's unfair not to have a memory of these places, but rightfully so, it's decided by those who manage these places.

I hope you enjoyed the photos I shared nonetheless. I'll see you tomorrow in my next post, and I wish you all a wonderful day!
