A suitcase ready to go around the block as soon as the clock strikes 12 and a new year begins, a bucket full of water thrown into the street, fireworks or firecrackers... I imagine that the farewell to 2024 in Havana, Cuba, had all this and more. But I can only talk about what happened in a small group of neighbours, those in front of my house and those next door.
Two or three firecrackers were heard in the distance, but I saw no fireworks in the sky. However, my next door neighbours are faithful to the tradition of uncorking a bubbly drink (Cider) at 12 midnight and toasting with it while burning the doll representing the year gone by. We were all invited.
I don't really feel like saying everything that comes to mind now about what happens to us every year on this island... the chaos we tend to live in and the lack of opportunities that makes people emigrate constantly... 😞 let's leave it at that, shall we?
Whenever we witness this burning we think that the fire will also consume our sorrows. The joys are untouchable. ;)
These photos were taken with my mobile phone. Open lens. And in that one below, where you see the light, it's because I asked a guy to spin the doll around with his mobile phone lantern on, while the picture was taken in 30 seconds.
When the old year's show was over I went home to sleep. I thought fleetingly of my 2024, and saw myself in a good frame of mind to face this one, which has already turned three of its pages.
A hug to all those who know how to hug and to those who don't... well we can't burn them, like that doll. Lol.... let's hope they learn by next year.
