Humans are addicted, there's no doubt. Even babies of yesterday are so addicted to screen usage. Take off a screen that displays cartoons from babies and hear them cry out so loud😁 even when they don't understand but looking at the pictures displaying makes them glued to the screen. My babies would not ask for food if they were with a phone, tablet, or TV. I had to step in quickly for caution to avoid addiction.

As a computer scientist, abuse of a computer screen or any other gadget is unethical. There are do's and don'ts of using these gadgets. There was a time when I could stay glued to my TV screen from morning till midnight through the dawn of another day. Later on, I discovered my eyes were aching as if something had entered into them, it started bringing out water without crying. I couldn't help but limit the TV screen and everything ended peacefully.

Also, with the kind of work I do now, as a secretary. I'm used to being on the computer screen from morning till closing time especially when I have lots of work to submit. The rays coming from the screen can damage my sight. I decided to take caution by wearing anti-glare protection. What about my fingers and back? To avoid my fingers being stiff and backache, it is ethical for me to take a long break.

    Myself and the screen

On discovering the Hive community, it has not been easy to get out of the screen. every time, day, night, hour, minute, and second, I think of Hive forgetting all other things. Hive has taken over my addiction to other social media platforms. The only time I'm off is whenever I have a flat battery and my power bank is flat too. God have mercy 🙏🙏

However, suggesting a way out to reduce your screen time can only depend on individuals on how much time they spend on the screen.

Here are some beneficial precautions for You and I

    • Prioritize your total health and well-being. Too much screen can cause sleepless nights, headaches, fatigue, and sight damage.

Time management: Set up how much time you wanna spend on the screen. Mark out your to-do- list, and allocate specific time to tasks and activities.Create a schedule and establish set times for different activities, including designated periods for screen usage. This encourages and promotes healthier habits. Stick with time!

    • Get in for distraction: Get involved in things that can distract you from the screen such as social outings, hobbies, exercise, reading, or spending quality time with friends and family.

    • Set boundaries: Set out rules for yourself and your household. Like my children, They are aware of no screens during school continuous assessment tests, examinations, and meal times. They know, they cannot put on TV or operate on any gadgets during this period.

    • Take breaks: Embrace regular breaks during extended screen sessions. Use these short intervals to stretch, walk around, exercise your body o, or engage in other activities. I do this most time work or in mine.

    • Be disciplined and self conscious: Disable unnecessary notifications that may distract you and lead to longer screen usage. Do not use your phone as an alarm. Make use of anti-glare protection if you must stay glued to your screen. Be aware of how much time you spend in front of screens, as this can lead to long-life damage. Do things appropriately!

In conclusion, it is crucial to find a screen time balance that works for you and your lifestyle.

    Remember, health is wealth!
