How come I, being a native of Cumaná, have not been to visit the house of the poet Andrés Eloy Blanco, I asked myself this question many times, in fact, I did go years ago, when I was a child, so this visit was like the first time.

That morning I went out to run some errands, being Holy Wednesday I had the intention of just asking if the house would be open to the public, to my surprise the answer was positive and the whole week. Before making the visit, I confess that I was very hot, besides, it was already after 12 noon, I was very thirsty and I thought it appropriate to take a cold drink and accompany it with a delicious snack, good thing that very close to my destination is our business partner, @cafebracamonte.

When I arrived at this cafe I sat down for a few minutes to rest, then I read the menu and ordered a delicious strawberry milkshake and an empanada, I was very surprised to see that it was a mega empanada, the truth is that I thought it was enough for lunch, hehehe. As always, I received a lot of kindness from the employees of the place and I made my payment by scanning the QR code, a fast, easy, safe method, without the intervention of third parties and without paying commissions. Now I was ready to go on my tour.

At the poet's birthplace I was greeted with a big smile and immediately the girl who was my guide told me the whole story as we toured the entire house. The poet's residence dates back to 1760, its infrastructure is totally colonial, high walls of bahareque, high doors and windows, caña brava roof and original terracotta floor that still remains. and original terracotta floor that still remains. Andrés Eloy Blanco was born in this house on August 6, 1896, in Cumaná, Sucre State, and lived there with his family until he was 9 years old. Due to political problems he moved with his family to Margarita and there he finished his elementary and high school studies.

With the change of government, from Cipriano Castro to Gómez, the Blanco family returned to the house where they were born but only for 6 months because Andrés Eloy went to Caracas to finish his academic training. Years later, in 1925 the house was sold and transformed to become the headquarters of the post office, Hotel España and even the Santa Teresa school. When the poet died, on May 21, 1955, a collection was made to recover the house, a fact that was possible in 1963. Two years later, on November 27, 1965, the then president of Venezuela, Raul Leoni, inaugurated the house and donated a bronze statue in honor of the poet, a work of sculptor Hugo Daini. The house itself is very well preserved, it is spacious and very beautiful despite its age, some original objects are still preserved such as the hand-washing sink, a jar, the flag with which the coffin was covered, the kitchen and some furniture. Married and with two children, it is possible to know in a great mural his genealogical tree, in addition, his confections in wood, like a magazine rack, a desk in pyramid form and a trunk, because Andrés Eloy Blanco had many professions, he was a poet, writer, lawyer, politician, diplomat and carpenter.
